The Folk Club is a worldwide eclectic folk show on Folk Music Notebook, Folk Friday Radio, West Norfolk Radio and Mixcloud, curated, produced and presented by Stuart Green. It first started in September 2020 when host, Stuart Green, was asked if he would like his own show. Entertainer Stuart, who is also a founder member of the band Isle ‘ave a Shanty jumped at the chance and hasn’t looked back si

nce . In the short time on air, this local show has quickly gathered a global audience right across the folk world. Stuart plays traditional and contemporary folk, roots and acoustic music on the show and draws upon a range of sources. The Featured Artist

In each show Stuart chooses a featured artist and has had a huge number of high-profile performers willing to take part, including folk royalty such as Show of Hands, Jon Boden, The Young’Uns, Gerry Colvin, Damien Barber and many more. Featured artists introduce and tell some of the stories behind their songs that they then share and Stuart constructs the show around them. Here We Are

This section of the show is very close to Stuart’s heart as he believes that everyone should have a chance to be heard. He recognises that there are thousands of musicians out there – up and coming as well as established artists – who don’t always get the opportunities to be heard so he set up this section of the show and invited artists, through social media, to make contact and share their music. He has had an overwhelming response and plays approximately three tracks each week. Some performers in this section have gone on to become Featured Artists too! The Folk Club Challenge

A regular feature of the show is the ‘Folk Club Challenge’. Voluntary performers are given a challenge, by Stuart, to rearrange and record a song of his choice and then when its ready, he plays it on the show. The Rest of The Show

The rest of the show gives Stuart the opportunity to play some of his favourite tracks from artists from across the UK and the rest of the world. It features news from the folk world, your requests and a great mix of folk, roots and acoustic music.

This week's Featured Artist (Show 275) is Jon Wilks

Jon is a singer, songwriter and acclaimed fingerpicking guitarist whose work is rooted in English folk traditions, memory, and place. A former journalist for Time Out, The Guardian, and Dazed & Confused, Wilks brings a sharp storytelling sensibility to his songwriting and stagecraft. He founded and was the original editor of Tradfolk.co, and performs both solo and with his occasional band, The Grizzly Folk. I’m delighted that Jon joins me on the show to introduce three of his tracks

Donal Rogers introduces a Christmas song from Ranagri ft Tony Christie plus, this week’s ‘Here We Are’ artists James Fox, The Vincent Burke Trio and Jackie Conn.

It's been a busy morning at Folk Club Towers today as I've also been chatting with John Marshall-Potter, the co-founder and director of the wonderful FolkEast

He gave me a fascinating history of the festival and a real insight to its running and development and evolution to where it has now landed on The Sotterley Estate.

You can hear our chat on show 276 dropping on 17.12.26

In the meanwhile find out who is playing in 2026 and buy tickets now at https://folkeast.co.uk/

This week's Featured Artists (Show 274) are Granny's Attic

With exceptional musicianship and boundless energy, Granny’s Attic are going from strength to strength. Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne, George Sansome and Lewis Wood have honed their skills touring the UK and Europe since 2009. They are much loved by audiences up and down the country, with bookings everywhere. The trio have been heralded for their lively performances and skilled delivery of traditional material, playing with verve, energy and their own inimitable style. Though grounded in tradition, they are keen to push new boundaries by exploring fresh approaches and writing their own compositions. All three of them join me on the show to introduce tracks from their latest album, Cold Blows the Wind

Also, a track from The Folk Club Archive plus, this week’s ‘Here We Are’ artists Alexander Wolfe, Those Folk and Somebody Else’s Troubles.
