The Folk Club is a worldwide eclectic folk show on Folk Music Notebook, Folk Friday Radio, West Norfolk Radio and Mixcloud, curated, produced and presented by Stuart Green. It first started in September 2020 when host, Stuart Green, was asked if he would like his own show. Entertainer Stuart, who is also a founder member of the band Isle ‘ave a Shanty jumped at the chance and hasn’t looked back si

nce . In the short time on air, this local show has quickly gathered a global audience right across the folk world. Stuart plays traditional and contemporary folk, roots and acoustic music on the show and draws upon a range of sources. The Featured Artist

In each show Stuart chooses a featured artist and has had a huge number of high-profile performers willing to take part, including folk royalty such as Show of Hands, Jon Boden, The Young’Uns, Gerry Colvin, Damien Barber and many more. Featured artists introduce and tell some of the stories behind their songs that they then share and Stuart constructs the show around them. Here We Are

This section of the show is very close to Stuart’s heart as he believes that everyone should have a chance to be heard. He recognises that there are thousands of musicians out there – up and coming as well as established artists – who don’t always get the opportunities to be heard so he set up this section of the show and invited artists, through social media, to make contact and share their music. He has had an overwhelming response and plays approximately three tracks each week. Some performers in this section have gone on to become Featured Artists too! The Folk Club Challenge

A regular feature of the show is the ‘Folk Club Challenge’. Voluntary performers are given a challenge, by Stuart, to rearrange and record a song of his choice and then when its ready, he plays it on the show. The Rest of The Show

The rest of the show gives Stuart the opportunity to play some of his favourite tracks from artists from across the UK and the rest of the world. It features news from the folk world, your requests and a great mix of folk, roots and acoustic music.

This week's Featured Artist (Show 280) is Ludwig O'Neill

Ludwig's music is the very heartbeat, the life soundtrack of Belfast, a Belfast changing now too... growing into something fine and new and full of hope. You wont find tales of murder and gunplay in Ludwig's work, nor will you find anger and aggression – instead you will find a passion for truth and understanding similar to that found in the works of Joyce or Hewitt. Ludwig merges his poetry and 'warmly intoxicating' music in a way that pulls at the very souls of his audience on so many different levels. I’m delighted that Ludwig joins me on the show to introduce 3 of his songs.

This week’s show also sees the return of The Folk Club Challenge, so stand by to hear what Gary Wooley and Among The Nightingales came up with!

Also, this week’s ‘Here We Are’ artists share their music – John Coventry, Cormac O’Caiomh and Lucy Kitchen.

I've just had a lovely chat with Sammantha Hannah of All For Jolly about their new single about to drop called 'Lifeblood'. (released 17th Jan)

It is released in support of https://independentvenueweek.com/ which takes place 26th Jan to 1st Feb where the ethos is to encourage people into live music venues, because frankly, many are struggling and without pre-ticket sales and support, will not survive.

All for Jolly go out on tour across February, their last tour for a while for the same reasons and you can find details here https://allforjolly.com/

You can hear our chat plus 2 tracks from the band on Show 281 which drops on 21st January.

Our first Featured Artist of 2026 (Show 279) is Joshua Burnell

Through his intricately crafted lyrics, Joshua creates a multiverse of settings, from apocalyptic love songs to reimagined fairy tales. He writes great songs and creates stunning arrangements of traditional music, he struts the stage with his prog rock anthems and has you in the palm of his hand with pop melodies and crowd pleasers such as Lucy. He is imminently about to release a reimagined version of his very first record, ‘Lend an Ear’ and I chat with him all about it before he shares three tracks from it.

Also, our very first ‘Here We Are’ artists of 2026 share their music – Jackie Conn, Geiger Von Muller and Tom Malley.
