The Folk Club The Folk Club is a worldwide eclectic folk show on Folk Music Notebook, Folk Friday Radio, West Norfolk Radio and Mixcloud.

The Folk Club is a regular show, broadcast on Blues & Roots Radio, Burwell Radio & West Norfolk Radio (and on Mixcloud). It first started in September 2020 when host, Stuart Green, was asked if he would like his own show. Entertainer Stuart, who is also a founder member of the band Isle ‘ave a Shanty jumped at the chance and hasn’t looked back since . In the short time on air, this local show has

quickly gathered a global audience right across the folk world. Stuart plays traditional and contemporary folk, roots and acoustic music on the show and draws upon a range of sources. The Featured Artist

In each show Stuart chooses a featured artist and has had a huge number of high-profile performers willing to take part, including folk royalty such as Show of Hands, Jon Boden, The Young’Uns, Gerry Colvin, Damien Barber and many more. Featured artists introduce and tell some of the stories behind their songs that they then share and Stuart constructs the show around them. Here We Are

This section of the show is very close to Stuart’s heart as he believes that everyone should have a chance to be heard. He recognises that there are thousands of musicians out there – up and coming as well as established artists – who don’t always get the opportunities to be heard so he set up this section of the show and invited artists, through social media, to make contact and share their music. He has had an overwhelming response and plays approximately three tracks each week. Some performers in this section have gone on to become Featured Artists too! The Folk Club Challenge

A regular feature of the show is the ‘Folk Club Challenge’. Voluntary performers are given a challenge, by Stuart, to rearrange and record a song of his choice and then when its ready, he plays it on the show. The Rest of The Show

The rest of the show gives Stuart the opportunity to play some of his favourite tracks from artists from across the UK and the rest of the world. It features news from the folk world, your requests and a great mix of folk, roots and acoustic music.

This week's Featured Artist (show 246) is Sam Kelly

Sam has become one of the most accomplished and well-respected performers on the UK folk scene. His band The Lost Boys are festival favourites across the UK and beyond, and as an accompanist on guitar and Irish bouzouki, his portfolio includes playing with the likes of Kate Rusby, Seth Lakeman, John McCusker, Phil Beer, and Katherine Priddy. Sam has become respected by peers and audiences alike as a unique and innovative arranger and pioneer of traditional folk song. He is about to release his latest album ‘Dreamers Dawn’ and Sam joins me on the show to introduce tracks from it
Plus this week’s ‘Here We Are’ artists who are Mark Spruce, Malin Hill and Andrew Dwyer.

This week's Featured Artist (show 245) are Merry Hell

It’s been a couple of years since Northwest Folk Rock stalwarts Merry Hell released a studio album but they are back with a brilliant new offering called ‘Rising of the Bold’. If anyone doesn’t know, and I find that unlikely, Merry Hell are one of the hardest working bands around, gigging relentlessly with an effervescence that is hard to match. Made up of eight outstanding musicians, including four members of the Kettle family, they recently recruited a new fiddle player, this being Simon Swarbrick – nephew of the legend Dave, to mold the band onto new heights. I’m delighted that three members of the band join me on the show to introduce three tracks from ‘Rising of The Bold’

Also news of this months gigs at Cambridge Folk Club

Plus this week’s ‘Here We Are’ artists who are Blue Fish Diamond, Sun Pinned Leaves and Robin James Hurt.
