SlateRoom Studio is 10 years old
October 23rd 2014 I did the very first session in (a very incomplete) Stateroom Studio with SeaOfCrowns. There was a missing back wall, no air con and the acoustics were very far from finished, but the absolute joy of doing a session in the space was incredible. If I recall we cut some guitars and vocals.
In truth, the studio was a solid 4 months away from being ‘finished’ (well.. version 1 of finished) with works continuing well into the start of 2015, but today is the date I call Day 1.
Over the 10 years the studio has undergone several revamps, the biggest of which was coming out of the pandemic where I swapped things around realising the full potential of the space, but other changes have been much more incremental. I am at heart a tinkerer and the strive to better this working environment has never gone away.
So - on the studios 10th Birthday, I’d love to say thanks to all the bands , artists, composers and producers who’ve trusted me and my space with their music, films and theatre productions. I’d also love to say a huge thanks Stuart at Castlesound for housing Stateroom Studio and allowing it to quietly and consistently grow from strength to strength.
Next week I am going to take apart the front of the studio and implement a few more imperceptible little changes, in the endless strive to make my little corner of the world better. I hope in 10 years time theres still plenty on that list.
