It’s freezing out there – the Ross Fountain in photos

You know it's cold in Edinburgh when the Ross Fountain in Princes Street Gardens freezes over. And today it did just that, amid temperatures of around minus 3°C. The fountain was restored in a £1.9 million project completed in 2018, and funded by local businessman, Norman Springford, of Apex Hotels. First Minister proposes a national bank holiday to mark Scotland’s participation in World Cup

Scotland’s participation in the World Cup for the first time since 1998 is set to be marked by a national bank holiday. Green belt houses rejected despite claims land is brownfield

Plans to build three new homes on a grazing field on the edge of a community have been rejected after locals objected to the loss of countryside. Applicant WM Inverkeithing Ltd argued the land at Polton, Lasswade, was a vacant brownfield site which could be used to help Midlothian’s housing crisis. However objectors argued it was on the green belt and raised concerns that a transport statement lodged with the plans referred to the new homes as ‘holiday chalets’....

Better training would reduce injuries to police officers

Improved training techniques could reduce the number of frontline police officers injured by more than 50% when they are assaulted in the line of duty. Police Scotland say officers in the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde sub division have been taking part in a pilot scheme delivering specialist training to assess if it leads to fewer injuries when cops are assaulted. The force say it has been identified by analysts as "one of the most violent" subdivisions, where assaults on officers and the subsequent time off recovering from the injuries sustained were "among the highest nationally"....

Improved training techniques could reduce the number of frontline police officers injured by more than 50% when they are assaulted in the line of duty.
