You would not believe this.

While growing up as a young chap, I saw my dad bring home awards. I thought it was a normal thing.

But I was wrong.

When I asked further, my dad taught me about the importance of dedication to excellence and exceptional performance in whatever you do and wherever you find yourself.

Many moons later, my dad has passed on, but his lessons are eternal. I can see the results.

I am deeply honored and humbled to share that I have received the Nelson Mandela Leadership Award for Excellence and Integrity from the West Africa Youth Council.

I am happy to say this is for you, Dad.

Being recognized as an ambassador is a true honor.

This award is not just a personal achievement; it reflects the lessons I learned from my dad, as well as the collective efforts and support of everyone who has believed in me and the mission of VantagePoint.

It fuels my dedication to continue championing the cause of empowering migrants and fostering opportunities for growth in the tech and business sectors.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my mentors and all those who have guided and inspired me on this journey. Your belief in me has been a source of strength and motivation.

I look forward to continuing this important work and making a positive impact in our community.

Thank you for your support.

If you fail to innovate, like the dinosaurs, you stand at risk of going extinct.

In my past three posts, I have spent time addressing the fact that times have changed.

What worked before is no longer working. But most people are still living in the past time zone.

Some could say, they are living in denial. But for others, it is just that they do not know.

I am writing this as a manifesto to help those who want to know how to leverage the hidden opportunities so they can be equipped to stand out and thrive.

If you missed them, you can catch up.

Go back to my timeline and catch up.

It contains some very rich stuff. It will change your life.

I mean it.

We are in a modern renaissance; we had an ancient one in the time of Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Napoleon, and the like. The modern renaissance otherwise, is also called the creator economy. Access to wealth has been democratized.

But to succeed in it, you must unlearn what no longer works and learn the tools that will help you stand out and thrive in the modern creator economy.

Here is the thing:

if you had been paying attention, you would have noticed the explosion of online creators and influencers.

I am not talking about those who make funny skits online. That too is another form of opportunity in the creator economy.

Let me explain.

The modern creator economy is for those with the zeal and tenacity to rebuild a personal brand, master how to communicate, grow their tribe, and create products that solve problems for their audience.

It’s like a new wave of creativity and opportunity is sweeping the internet.

People from all over the world are building personal brands and making a living by sharing their passions. Whether it's through YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or blogs, these creators are carving out their own paths.

And there is an opportunity that has your name on it as well. Irrespective of your location, age or gender.

But how do you join them?

How do you build a successful personal brand?

First, choose your areas of interest. What are you passionate about? What do you love to talk about or create? This will be your foundation.

Next, choose a platform and build an audience. You don’t need 20,000 followers. You only need 1,000 true fans to serve as a community.

Learn copywriting skills and start addressing challenges or issues in your niche. Good copy can engage and convert your audience.

Be consistent in sharing content in the format that suits your personality: writing (newsletters, Facebook, X, LinkedIn), speaking (podcasts), or video (YouTube, TikTok, IG reels).

Identify the **core problems you’d like to solve** and create a digital product that addresses these problems. There is a hungry market out there, waiting for solutions.

**Sell your product**. Create it once and sell it multiple times. This is the beauty of digital products.

The rise of modern creators is opening up amazing opportunities.

Are you ready to join them and build your personal brand?

Keep following this series. If you carry out the tips, it will change your life.

Does the ancient Renaissance picture look like me?

Just recently, the internet broke with the news of Davido and Chioma’s wedding in Nigeria. (Wednesday, June 25, 2024)

Almost everyone was talking about the ceremony. Celebrities rolled out in their numbers dressed in glamour, representing and showing their fashion and luxurious outfits.

The high and mighty came from all over the world. The scene was like one of those scenes in Bridgerton when Queen Charlotte throws a ball. Only this time, it was Davido and Chioma getting married. And the authenticity of Davido was on another level. Chioma was at the center of the celebration.

But one thing struck me. No one there had their university degree or the name of their university engraved on their faces. Yet, there were mostly people championing their industry, from fashion, media and entertainment to the corporate world, governments, etc.

It begs the question, What is the common denominator of everyone in the room?

They all had significant value, which gave them influence.

Indeed, university degrees are no longer enough. That is not to say they are not relevant.

What you studied at the university may bring you into the room, but it is the unique value you have to offer that takes you to the inner circle, among the 1% where decisions are made and influence is wielded.

University degrees were once the golden ticket to a successful career. But now, the world has changed. Technology is evolving fast, and jobs are different from what they used to be.

Employers want more than just a piece of paper. They want skills that are practical and up-to-date.

Think about it like this: if you have a shiny new smartphone but only know how to make calls, you’re not using its full potential. It’s the same with your degree. You need to know how to use it in the modern world.

For example, coding is a skill that many jobs require now. Even if you studied business, knowing some basic coding can make you stand out. Online platforms like Codecademy or Coursera can teach you these skills.

Communication is another key skill. It's not just about speaking well; it’s about listening and understanding others. Good communication can make you a great team player, which is something every employer values.

Networking is like building bridges. The more connections you have, the more opportunities you can find. LinkedIn is a great place to start. Connect with people in your industry, join groups, and participate in discussions.

Adaptability is your superpower. The job market is always changing. Being able to learn new skills and adapt to new situations makes you valuable. Employers are looking for people who can grow with their company.

So, what can you do to make sure you’re ready for today’s job market? Here are some tips:

- Keep learning: Take online courses to stay updated on new skills.

- Build your network: Connect with professionals on LinkedIn and attend industry events.

- Gain experience: Internships and volunteer work can give you real-world experience.

- Showcase your skills: Create a portfolio or a personal website to show what you can do.

- Stay adaptable: Be open to learning and changing as needed.

A university degree is a great start, but it’s not the end of your learning journey.

When you add practical skills, networking, and staying adaptable, you can succeed in today's job market.

My question is, in what ways are you adding these practical skills to yourself?

Please share this so that other people can enjoy what you are also enjoying.

Today, I will be gentle with this post.

Not like yesterday.

If you do not get the gist, leave this post and go look for my earlier post to read before coming back to continue.

I have a quiz: Who was the most powerful person in the TV Series Bridgerton. It was not the queen. Read further to find out. (The answer will shock you.)

Let me start with a story.

As a young chap, I remember how we excitedly waited for 4pm to watch the NTA programme. Whether it was Sesame Street, Terrahawk, Voltron, Danger Mouse, or Tele March. These programmes made our childhood.

We all had our local content, like Speak Out, Tales by Moonlight, and the other one that kids debate and solve mathematics with their minds or on a sheet of paper. (I have forgotten the name.)

And then there was Check-Mate and After the Storm, The Rich also Cry, and I remember Cyril Stober’s Sunday Newsline on Sundays.

Now, everything is online.

Radio FM has been replaced with Apple Music and Spotify and all forms of podcasts.

Television has been replaced with Amazon Prime, Netflix, YouTube and the likes.

Slum books and casual conversations are now replaced with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Sorry, I mean X.

Then COVID-19 came to accelerate the adoption of technology. It is probably the most drastic disruption the world has ever seen in a while.

It was a storm. But with every storm comes rainbow at the end. The rainbow signifies new opportunities.

On a side note, global disruptions are phenomena that occur every 40 years. In the past, it took the form of war, technological advancements, the discovery of automobiles, and the discovery of energy. A man is being sent to the moon.

Guess what?

There will be another major in another generation to come. It may not be a disease. These disruptions come to take away the old and bring the new.

Before COVID-19, most people worked in offices. It was like being in a box.

Then the pandemic hit, and suddenly, everyone was working from home.

It was a big change, but it showed us that work can be done anywhere. You don’t need to be in a big city to find a good job anymore.

The pandemic was the storm, and now we see a rainbow of new opportunities.

Technology is a rainbow after the storm. Before, we used technology every day, but now it's become our lifeline.

AI, automation, and new digital tools have made our lives easier. If you love tech, now is your time to shine. There are so many chances to create new apps, software, and cool gadgets.

Think of education as another rainbow. Schools and colleges had to close their doors, but learning didn’t stop. It just moved online. Now, you can learn anything you want from the comfort of your home.

Websites like Coursera, Udemy, and LinkedIn Learning offer courses on everything, from cooking to coding.

The gig economy is like a treasure chest waiting to be opened. More people are freelancing or starting their businesses.

Platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Etsy are perfect places to offer your skills or sell handmade products. If you have a talent, there’s a place for you.

Social media has become the new stage for performers. With everyone spending more time online, the demand for fresh content grew.

If you like making videos, writing stories, or designing graphics, now is the time to share your talent with the world.

So, how can you ride this rainbow to success? Here are some new tips:

- Find your passion: Think about what you love to do and find a way to make it your job.
- Stay curious: Always look for new things to learn and ways to improve.
- Build your brand: Use social media to show off your skills and connect with people who can help you.
- Be brave: Don’t be afraid to try new things, even if they seem scary at first.

As Earl Nightingale said, the opposite of Courage is not fear. It is conformity. Behaving like most people without knowing why.

The most important currency that makes people stand out in the new economy is the courage to initiate. Many are afraid to take the first step but are looking for those who will lead the way. Will you be among the first to take a stand, or will you be afraid and wait?

Your brain says to you, Play it safe; no one has tried it before. What if it fails?

Like the words of Eminem, I am not afraid to take the stand.

In addition to courage, do not forget to develop skills that are in demand and can be traded in this new economy. The skills will help you not just stand but become a standard.

These skills are:

Writing: Many people thrive on social media channels because of their ability to write either for X, email, or to write a book or a movie. Writing is key to communicating and creating experiences.

You are reading this because of my ability to write.

The most powerful person in the TV series Bridgerton is not the queen. It was lady whistle-down. She had a newsletter. She was a writer.

It’s kind of like Linda Ikeji and Bella Naija of our time. If I were you, I would take writing seriously.

Speaking: Be it a podcast or song. Teaching a skill or knowledge thrives on your ability to speak in a way that holds attention. Learn to speak so the world listens.

Content Creation (Videos): Yes, loads of content are consumed through videos. We are in a video-consuming world.

It existed in the past as dreams. Now you do not need to sleep to see motion pictures. They exist through movies, virtual reality, or simply recording yourself on your mobile phone and posting on a YouTube channel, which you can create for free.

There are millionaires on YouTube who started by creating videos online. See Nas Daily, for example.

All you need to do is be yourself and tell stories. It is simple. Jesus was a storyteller. You already tell stories that people want to listen to.

Just do it in front of the camera. You might just be the next Oprah or Steve Harvey. (It must not be funny like these skit makers.)

Just tell stories about something that interests you.

Marketing: Learn to write in ways that hold attention and make people want to buy.

You need marketing skills to toast a girl, get a company to employ you, or even sell an idea so people can pay you.

Marketing is a life skill and can save your life. But most people take these skills for granted.

Do to be like most people. Learn these skills like your life depends on them. Because, to be honest, it does.

The pandemic was tough, like a storm, but it also brought new opportunities, like a rainbow. We’re in a modern renaissance, a new economy with abundant opportunities, and it’s time to seize the moment.

Like the Chinese proverb, instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle.

The next time I hear you complain about the government and you are not doing anything from your small corner, you deserve flogging.

Please share this post.

Please share this so that other people can enjoy what you are also enjoying.

PS: Should I stop the series or continue to post more?

2. Be consistent with your values

Remember to always be punctual, show gratitude, and take ownership of your work. Be consistently reliable and supportive.

3. Build New Connections

Forming new relationships at work can open doors. Be genuine and show interest in your colleagues’ projects and hobbies.

Join Groups: Participate in group activities or online forums related to your field.

4. Use Tech to Your Advantage

Stay updated with the latest tech trends. Learning new tools and platforms can set you apart.

Take courses on platforms like Coursera or LinkedIn Learning.

Project Management: The Life Skill You Didn't Know You Needed

Project Management is more than just a professional skill.

It's a life skill.

Here’s how it can save your life.

First, let's break down what project management really is.

At its core, project management involves planning, executing, and overseeing projects to ensure they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget. But these principles aren't limited to the workplace—they can be applied to everyday life.

1. Organizational Skills
One of the main components of project management is organization. Whether you're planning a family vacation, managing your finances, or organizing a home renovation, being organized can save you time, stress, and money.

2. Risk Management
Life is full of uncertainties. Project management teaches us to anticipate risks and develop mitigation strategies. This can be crucial in personal situations, such as handling a medical emergency or preparing for natural disasters.

3. Effective Communication
Good project managers excel in communication. They ensure that everyone involved understands the plan and their role within it. This skill is invaluable in personal relationships and team settings.

4. Time Management
Managing time effectively is a cornerstone of project management. This skill helps you prioritize tasks and use your time wisely, which is essential for balancing work, family, and personal interests.

Practical Tips to Apply Project Management in Life

Set Clear Goals: Define what you want to achieve, whether it's a career goal, personal fitness target, or home improvement project.

Plan Thoroughly: Break down your goals into manageable tasks. Create a timeline and identify any resources you might need.

Monitor Progress: Regularly check your progress and adjust your plan as necessary. This helps you stay on track and handle any issues that arise.

Communicate Effectively: Keep everyone involved informed and engaged. This applies to family members, friends, or colleagues.

Evaluate and Reflect: After completing a project, take time to reflect on what went well and what could be improved. This helps you learn and grow.

Project management isn't just for the workplace—it's a valuable life skill. These skills can help you achieve your goals faster.

So, start thinking like a project manager and see how it transforms your life!

Over a decade of being a Project Manager; I still have imposter syndrome.

⇢ “Will this project plan pull it off"

⇢ "Will this meeting go as planned"

⇢ “Have I addressed all risk"

No one gets far in life without these thoughts.

They don’t go away, they just get quieter.

Keep at it. Show up daily with gusto!

Having a great dream is not enough.

You've got to build a habit or system that helps you sustain the momentum. That is when you can become unstoppable.

As a project manager and tech career advisor, I've learned that raising your standards and sustaining momentum are essential ingredients for success in both professional and personal life.

Here are five (5) ways you can use to raise your standards...

1. Set Clear Goals:

Take some time to reflect on what you truly want to achieve in life – both in your career and personal endeavors.

Write down your goals, break them down into actionable steps, and create a plan to pursue them with determination and focus.

2. Continuous Improvement:

This is a kaizen principle. To sustain momentum for growth, it's important to embrace the concept of continuous improvement.

This means committing to lifelong learning and development, seeking feedback, and constantly striving to become the best version of yourself.

Whether it's acquiring new skills, reading books, attending workshops, or seeking mentorship, prioritize activities that facilitate personal and professional growth.

3. Surround Yourself with High Achievers:

They say you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, so choose your circle wisely.

Surround yourself with high achievers – people who inspire you, challenge you, and push you to raise your standards.

Seek out mentors, join networking groups, and participate in mastermind sessions to connect with like-minded individuals who share your commitment to growth.

4. Taking Action:

Raising your standards and sustaining momentum require consistent action. It's not enough to simply set goals and dream big – you must take tangible steps towards your vision every single day.

Develop daily habits and routines that support your growth, whether it's waking up early to exercise, dedicating time for learning, or practicing gratitude and mindfulness.

5. Celebrate Your Wins:

Finally, don't forget to celebrate your achievements along the way. Recognize and acknowledge your progress, no matter how small, and celebrate the milestones you reach on your journey.

Celebrating your wins not only boosts your morale but also reinforces positive habits and motivates you to keep pushing forward.

What's one area of your life where you're committed to raising your standards?
