**A true legend of Scottish television and radio.**

SC1 Radio are deeply saddened by the passing of Tony Currie, a familiar voice and much-respected figure in Scottish broadcasting whose remarkable career spanned television and radio over many decades.

Tony spent many years working in continuity for both STV and BBC Scotland.

After more than a decade at STV's Cowcaddens studios, Tony became Controller of Programmes at the Cable Authority before moving to the Independent Television Commission (ITC) as its Cable Programming Controller.

Tony subsequently returned to broadcasting in Scotland, providing continuity for BBC Scotland until his retirement six years ago.

But television was only part of Tony's story.

Radio remained one of his great passions throughout his life. His broadcasting career began on radio in the United States before he returned home to Scotland and joined STV. Across the years, his unmistakable voice could be heard on the airwaves, and he continued broadcasting with Radio Six International right up until his passing.

Tony belonged to a generation of broadcasters whose voices became part of everyday life. His knowledge, professionalism and passion for broadcasting left an enduring mark on Scottish radio and television.

Our deepest condolences and sympathies go to Tony's family, friends, colleagues and everyone who had the privilege of knowing or working alongside him.

Tony may have left the microphone for the final time, but his contribution to broadcasting will live on. Here at SC1 Radio, we will do our part to ensure that his work and memory are not forgotten.

⚠️ Wildfire update – Public information

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service continues to respond to the ongoing wildfire within the Cairngorms National Park. There are currently nine fire appliances at the scene, supported by specialist wildfire resources, as firefighters work alongside partner agencies to tackle the incident.

As emergency service operations continue, we are asking the public to take note of the following important information:

🚨 Smoke advisory – Tomintoul
Residents in Tomintoul are advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke from the wildfire.
If you are affected by smoke, stay indoors where possible, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. For further health advice, please follow NHS Highland.

🏠 Evacuation update
As a precaution, residents in the small area of properties north-west of Dorback Lodge (Lain Thatchan) are being evacuated. Residents are being directed to a dedicated respite centre at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort.

🚜 Request for plant machinery
Operators who can provide suitable plant machinery to support the ongoing multi-agency response are asked to report to the Village Hall in Nethy Bridge.

⚠️ Please continue to avoid the affected areas while firefighting operations remain ongoing. The area remains unsafe due to active firefighting operations, rapidly changing fire behaviour and helicopter activity.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as emergency services and partner agencies respond to this incident.
