I used water based amber stain to give a vintage look to this replacement bass neck from
Once I achieved the desired colour, I sealed it with Crimson's quick drying Melamine finish before applying a few coats of their high build oil to complete the look.

All done by hand without the days of curing time required for a sprayed lacquer finish. Perfect for DIY on a deadline.
