'Struggling in the fog of grief, Fern embarks on a journey gradually rediscovering the light that can be found amongst the darkness following bereavement.

With a background in music education and performing as a drummer and flautist, Cheryl turned to animation during the lockdown and quickly discovered a passion for animation.

Gravitating towards stop motion animation, she studied with Aardman Academy before undertaking an MA in Animation at University of Salford, Manchester. Using the year to research the use of different materials in stop motion animation, she became particularly drawn to abstract animation on the multiplane.

Seaglass is her MA short film, taking on the role of Director/Animator.'

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐡𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝: The Primevals (Director- David Allen)

'Deep in the Himalayas, a group of Sherpas subdue and kill a towering humanoid creature. Its remains - including a brain that appears to have undergone some kind of surgery - wind up under the supervision of Dr. Claire Collier (Juliet Mills, BEYOND THE DOOR), who believes it to be one of the legendary Yeti. Joined by her former student Matt Connor (Richard Joseph Paul), a longtime believer in the creatures' existence, big- game hunter Rondo Montana (Leon Russom, THE BIG LEBOWSKI), and others, Dr. Collier leads an expedition into the mountains to track down more of the abominable snowmen. Their trek results in an encounter with a tribe of primitive hominids - which in turn leads to the far more frightening discovery of beings they never could have expected or imagined.

Stop motion FX wizard David (BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED, PUPPET MASTER) Allen's long-planned passion project was shelved in the 1990's after Allen passed away from cancer. Finally completed in 2023 by Full Moon and former Allen associate Chris Endicott (AVENGERS: ENDGAME), THE PRIMEVALS is the ultimate retro-fantasy adventure, employing a wild array of arresting, 100% hand-rendered, stop-motion special effects and a rich orchestral score from composer Richard Band.

'Bridget Appleby worked for Cosgrove Hall Films for over 30 years as a
designer and Art Director. Bridget’s designs for Cosgrove Hall and beyond demonstrate some of the creative ingenuity of the stop motion design process.
Bridget Appleby met founders Brian Cosgrove and Mark Hall whilst working alongside them at Granada Television. When Brian and Mark established their first company Stop Frame Films Bridget joined them, learning about animation on the job.

During her career at Cosgrove Hall Bridget earned herself a BAFTA for directing and art directing a stop motion adaption of The Reluctant Dragon. She designed characters for model animation including The Pied Piper of Hamelin, before becoming Art Director where she was responsible for bringing together the characters, concept and worlds for stop motion animations such as Oakie Doke and Brambly Hedge. Bridget brought Brambly Hedge to life using a
‘decoupage’ method; layering watercolour drawings onto props that retained the authenticity of the original watercolour illustrations from Jill Barklem’s book.

Building cohesive worlds like this is crucial to establishing a series, and a useful tool infor creating marketable children’s television. Bridget’s style can be seen across Cosgrove Hall productions such as Andy Pandy, Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men for the BBC, Engie Benjy and Fifi and the Flowertots. After working at Cosgrove Hall, Bridget went on to art direct shows such as Cloudbabies, designing everything from the characters, world and props. She continues to work in the industry today.'

The judges of The Ray Harryhausen Awards were delighted to present special new award category in last year's winners announcement. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐡𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 was given to 'Epic Tails' (TAT Studios), a fantastic, family friendly adventure which picks up on the story of an ageing Jason and the Argonauts.

John Walsh is a trustee of the Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation. He is a double BAFTA nominated filmmaker and best-selling author. After graduating from the London Film School, John founded his own film production company, Walsh Bros Ltd, which became one of the UK’s top 100 production companies.
