[UPDATE]

In December of 2021, we informed you that McDonald's was looking to submit an application to build a restaurant near Morrisons in Lindsayfield.

McDonald's has come out with a new plan which they look to open a £4 million pound restaurant with a drive-thru. This proposal will look to bring 120 full-time and part-time job opportunities to East Kilbride.

The restaurant will include 35 car parking spaces with 3 disabled spots and 14 bicycle parking places.

The new plan will be fully available to members of the public at an event on Wednesday, 29th of March between 3-7pm at St Vincent's De Paul's Catholic Church.

[BREAKING] Planning permission has been submitted for a new McDonald's Restaurant to be built in Lindsayfield.

South Lanarkshire Council has released plans for a new McDonald's Restaurant to be built next to the existing Morrisons Lindsayfield. This is planned to be built at the back end of the existing carpark and will include a drive-thru.

Many of the nearby residents have taken to social media to object to the plan.

Updates will be released as soon as more information is given.

Local foodbanks appeal for people to donate after stock plummets.

A local foodbank in East Kilbride is looking for people to donate after a massive hit in stock.

They are urging people to get involve in the help to support those in our communities.

Local foodbank drop-off points:
- Morrisons, Lindsayfield
- Sainsbury’s, East Kilbride, town centre
- Co-Op, The Village
- Sainsbury’s, Strathaven
- Calderwood Fresh and Press
- Paragon Wheels, College Milton

Local schools are also getting involved in the fight for more donations.

A section of Burnhouse Road will be closing soon for replacement of Scottish Power overhead cables.

This closure is between Shieldsburn Farm and Burnhouse Manor. This section of the road will be closed on Friday the 30th of July.

There is a diversion in place. This is via Burnhouse Road, Auldhouse Road, Shields Road, Burnhouse Road, and vice versa.

Angry shopper exposes Lindsayfield Morrisons after being sold a milkshake, 5 weeks out of date.

One shopper, who had just recovered from having COVID bought an out-of-date milkshake from the Morrisons supermarket in Lindsayfield.

The shopper took a sip of the drink and instantly realised that something wasn't right with the product.

Graham Sutherland told Lanarkshire live: "I bought a vanilla milk drink, which I took a drink out of in my car after I bought it but sensing a peculiar taste I looked at the sell by date which was stamped 21-5-21 - just over five weeks out of date."

A spokeswoman for Morrisons said: "We apologise to Mr Sutherland and are fully investigating what happened here with the store."

Auldhouse Road will be closing soon for temporary repairs.

This is between Cleughearn Road and Burnhouse Road which will be closed from Monday 21 June to Tuesday 22 June for carriageway repairs.

There will be a diversion via Auldhouse Road, Shields Road, Burnhouse Road.

Fire breaks out at the Benthall Farm Estate.

On Friday evening into the early hours of Saturday morning, emergency services responded to the fire in the Benthall Farm estate.

It was believed that the houses that were caught in the blaze, were still in construction. No casualties were reported after the fire broke out.

East Kilbride Police Confirm no 'criminal element' Took Place in Regards to the Fire at the idle Braxburn Kennels, in Auldhouse.

On May 14th we reported that there was an ongoing fire at Braxburn Kennels and for locals to avoid that area until the area was clear of emergency services.

Police have now investigated this fire and have released a statement.

East Kilbride Area Inspector David Doherty said: "The investigation has been concluded and the fire is not being recorded as wilful."

It has been since October since pubs in Scotland have opened their doors to the public.

Beer gardens are to open from Monday and will be serving alcohol till 8pm. Punters will be allowed indoors, however, alcohol will not be served inside.

Due to the ongoing restrictions that we are still following, most pubs will require you to book in advance via their website.

Many pubs are opening, however, some will still remain closed. Due to this, the pubs expected to be open from Monday in South Lanarkshire are the following:

CALA has officially begun building new homes in Jackton as part of the community growth area.

CALA homes are expected to be building a range of one and two-bedroom apartments, three-bed terraced, and four and five-bedroom detached homes.

We told you last month that Taylor Wimpey had been accepted to build 228 private homes next to Jackton Road.

The area has been said to include green space and play areas along with an additional 2500 houses being built.

The road at the junction of Jackton Road and Eaglesham Road is supposedly going to be developed and funded by SLC and will be built this year.

Eight COVID cases reported in Lindsayfield last week.

Figures published by Public Health Scotland revealed there were 252 new cases of the virus between Sunday, February 28, and Saturday, March 6, in Scotland.

COVID cases are at it's lowest since September 20th with 0.79 cases per 1000 residents.

Across Lanarkshire 44 of 82 neighborhoods recorded less than three COVID cases, up from 36 from the previous week.

The Benthall Farm project is still in progress and moving at speed.

We told you in December that 70 new affordable homes were going to be built at Benthall Farm, near Auldhouse.

This would allow for one and two-bedroom cottage flats, two and three-bedroom terraced, two and three-bedroom semi-detached as well as four-bedroom detached homes which will be private.

[UPDATE]
The development of 223 new homes in East Kilbride takes a step forward.

Following the previous post a few months ago, we were told that 223 homes are going to be built after being approved.

Taylor Wimpey has now released that they will still be going ahead with this development. They expect to be building a mix of two and three-bedroom terraced and semi-detached, as well as three and four-bedroom detached homes.

Roads have already begun being built in preparation for further development. They are also doing this to accommodate a new Primary School and Retail.

Taylor Wimpey also added that their Development near Jackton Road will create up to 160 jobs per year for construction.

22 Cases Of COVID-19 Identified In Lindsayfield & Crosshouse.

This comes after Public Health Scotland revealed that there were 808 new cases of the virus between January 10th and Saturday 16th - down by 23 percent from the week before.

However, cases are still high and people are still being advised to stick to the strict measures that the new lockdown has brought.

Snow hits Lindsayfield again.

Again, we wake up to snow this morning.

It's best to stay at home if you don't need to go out.
However, if you are out and planning to go out. So far, it seems as if the roads are clear and the streets are salted.

There are no new reports of snow this evening, however, temperatures are expected to drop to around -2 degrees celsius. So there may be a possibility of icy patches - So be as careful as you can.

East Kilbride Police are pleading with East Kilbride residents to stay safe during the festive holidays.

The local Police have warned East Kilbride residents not to drink and drive when travelling to see any loved ones.

This has been announced as 4500 drink and drug driving offences were recorded by Police Scotland from the start of April until the end of the September month, despite the lockdown restrictions.

More officers are said to be patrolling the roads as we come into the festive week.

Inspector Stephen McManus, from the Community Policing Team, said: “Our festive drink and drug driving campaign is now well underway and officers will be visible and will be pro-actively stopping vehicles throughout the festive period."

Scottish fire chiefs warn residents to be careful this Christmas.

East Kilbride residents have been urged to be safe this Christmas. This is after last year (2019) the Fire Service saw 22 accidental fires in homes in South Lanarkshire between the 9th of December to January 13th, 2020.

The fire chief is requesting that people are more aware this Christmas. Especially focussing on heating - which will be on more regulary during winter and the constant flash of Christmas lights.

Lindsayfield street comes together to celebrate with a socially distanced Christmas light switch on.

Residents at Campsie Road have been involved in coming together as a community to celebrate Christmas this year. This was after they came together to donate 264 items in total to the local Ek Community Foodbank.

70 new affordable homes to be built at Benthall Farm, near Auldhouse.

These new developments will be built by Taylor Wimpey, who has announced to build 70 new affordable homes.

The agreement allows for the one and two-bedroom cottage flats, two and three-bedroom terraced, two and three-bedroom semi-detached as well as four-bedroom detached homes which will be private.

'This is an exciting new development for the area and the houses will be delivered by the contractor to all modern construction, energy efficiency, and sustainability standards.' - Says the Executive Director of Housing and technical resources at South Lanarkshire Council.
