The one thing that I absolutely love doing is marketing. It took me a while to really figure out that the one thing that I’m super passionate about is marketing. What I would like to walk you through a little today are three strategies that have worked well so far for our saas company and how you can use these to increase your sales and marketing efforts.
Of course, so many people struggle with marketing, and one of the main struggles is copywriting, now there are a huge number of books that deal with copywriting but if you are like me you might want to check out the little cheat that we use often to get we use to get our copywriting done in a jiffy.
What I want to be able to do within this post is dumb down a little on SAAS marketing and help with three cool principles that can shift the needle within your marketing.
What we need is to start our marketing off in a way that will begin to give you a mini brand but at the same time keep the direct marketing in place, this will mean that customers will start finding you and telling you exactly what they want, making closing deals easier.
However, within this post, I want to come at it from a point of starting your SAAS marketing journey so considering a limited budget.
When looking at various SAAS businesses, either your own or perhaps one that you are representing as an affiliate, one of the biggest mistakes we often see is the lack of consistency.
BE CONSISTENT WITHIN YOUR MARKETING
You will often hear the term consistency is key and this runs very true when trying to run a successful marketing campaign. If you are going to be making posts we want to add power to each and every post you make, meaning that we want as many articles and videos all pointing to the one main piece of content, all hitting at the same time.
This is where we will use Chatammo‘s auto-posting feature to make sure everything gets posted at the same time, on Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, WordPress, and various other sites which will give you increased power.
It is best if all of your posts are scheduled in advance giving as much power as possible. And feeding the various algorithms giving them a time that you will be putting out marketing.
THE WEBSITE
I see so many founders changing their main website, and whenever we get a call from a founder and ask what is their URL, it is very common to hear back, “yeah we are just changing it.”
We are not immune we have changed our site so many times, but what we need your website to be is polarizing and consistent, this is the beginning step to building your marketing machine.
We want to really niche down in our who’s, it’s a very noisy world out there and attention spans are decreasing rapidly. We need to attract our ideal clients the more we can pinpoint the better. But just as important is driving people we don’t want away.
Russell Brunson changed his entire business when he brought out a spoilt test lead magnet, suddenly his ideal clients were excited about the prospect of getting their hands on spilt test results.
The people he didn’t want to attract didn’t know what split tests are. Clickfunnels took a very hard stance and polarised its client base getting their ideal customers what they would desire most.
Your website is your chance to join your ideal customer where they are on their journey, and take them by the hand and show them how your X solves the problems that they are having.
BE SPECIFIC
When I used to begin talking about Chatammo, I would say things like we do email, and if you do email we will help you be more effective with email.
This means nothing to your prospect, it has no polarizing qualities to it. Once we started to understand who our ideal users were, we could start making a much more defined polarizing statement, one of our ideal segments is groove users and so we could start making statements using groove users who are into digital marketing as our targets.
Start to figure out what your thing about the thing is and get specific, have a polarizing view on it, and talk about that. Everything will become easier.
If my marketing message for Chatammo was hey, we know marketing is hard and we help you do it better. Not very inspiring.
But think about how you can be more specific in your messaging.
So for example.
Hey Groovesters, we understand marketing is hard, and building your email list can be very difficult, we help you make marketing easier by giving you the tools to gain the social email address of your prospects, giving you a 70% higher click-through rate, a much higher engagement and starts you on the path to becoming an Omni present marketer. We will help you figure out your go-to marketing strategy. Being within marketing takes its toll mentally and so we help you get your mindset right with our daily training.
Gets your attention a little more yeah?
When you think about how many start-ups survive it is critical that you do this kind of positioning to get yourself into the 4% of surviving start-ups and not in the 96% of failed startups.
In the statement above I’m not mentioning the features of Chatammo, instead, I’m talking about the results users can accept.
Try not to talk about your software directly, yes we know it is the greatest software out there but people don’t want to know they want to know the results you are offering.
DON’T SELL IMPROVEMENT
Nobody wants to hear about an improvement, if you are telling somebody that they can do something better, first they have to admit they have done something bad first. And nobody wants to admit they have done something bad.
Instead, sell a transformation and let the people know that the vehicle they were using isn’t the correct one to get them the results that they want. This helps you because now you can throw stones at the vehicle they were using, and let them know that their failure was not their fault.
We don’t want to offer incremental improvement, but instead a complete transformation.
Here’s the thing when you are talking to me about an improvement, I’m already thinking man, that’s a lot of work. I’ve got ta, do yet another thing, and I’m already invested on this other thing and they’re the leader and I got ta.
When you are talking about an improvement offer, the thoughts that are running through your prospect’s head is, I’m already using this thing, and it took a lot of learning, and this new thing is similar to it, and I would need to start learning again. I will just get confused. That’s it, they are now mentally switched off.
Instead, try, here’s this brand new thing, this is how it is gonna change what you do and this is why we are wildly different.
Many SAAS companies tend to try and hedge their bets, they know that there is something out there that is similar and so they just say they will improve on that.
Clickfunnels did this very well when they compared themselves to websites, they didn’t just say clickfunnels are a series of website pages linked together in a particular way. Instead, they told their prospects this is different. A website is just a brochure a sales funnel is a dedicated salesperson selling your offers.
It isn’t enough for me to say Chatammo is a little like Manychat but better, who cares? They are sitting pretty comfortably over there in Manychat.
Instead, if we position Chatammo as a transformational thing everything changes.
We can tell our prospects, that it takes around seven touches to turn a lead into an opportunity, and chatammo will take care of those seven touches for you. We have a complete system that automatically does these seven touches for you.
RECAP
Be specific, polarizing and consistent.
Talk about the thing about the thing.
Talk transformation, not an improvement.
BONUS POINTS MINDSET
Future proof your pitch with a mindset change, share a different way they can think about it, a brand new opportunity, and everything will begin to change.
Your customers won’t only trust you forever and continuously buy from you if you can get them to change their mindsets– they’ll be interested in your company even if they’re currently invested with a competitor.
