Just home from seeing the wonderful Josh Rouse playing at the Drygate as part of Celtic Connections. It’s the 20th anniversary of the release of his album Nashville, and hearing him play the album in its entirety was a life affirming experience. Music for the soul! Got the eldest sproglet a signed copy of the album she has grown up listening to - I can finally get my copy back!

A stunning New Years Day in Edinburgh with the eldest sproglet. Saw some wonderful gigs as part of the First Footin’ event. Karine Polwart and at was absolutely stunning. Also caught the and and to round off a top start to the year. Here’s to a great 2025.

As part of year-long initiative, The Independent will spotlight one grassroots venue from each of the 12 UK regions, and speak with the people who help to run it to highlight the struggles and successes they have experienced. This month’s Main Stage spotlight venue is PJ Molloys, a 300-capacity venue in Dunfermline, Scotland, which has asserted itself over the past seven years as one of the region’s go-to live music spots.
