Event: Scotland Hat Walk
Date: 7th April 2024
Time: 1pm
2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the very first London Hat Week festival, it also marks the 20th Anniversary of the first Barcelona Hat Stroll. To mark these occasions, the founders of LHW are coordinating a visual treat on a global scale. On Sunday, 7 April 2024 will see the biggest walking showcase of millinery ever, as participants in 16 cities around the world don their finest headwear to strut their stuff on the first World Hat Walk. The walks are free of charge and everyone is welcome to join in, including dogs, as long as they are wearing a hat! The routes are set by local organisers with the emphasis on admiring everyone’s headwear, having fun and making new friends rather than distance or speed. Many professional milliners and hatters take part to showcase their own designs alongside vintage/retro enthusiasts, collectors, cosplayers, re-enactors, hobby crafters and those brave enough to wear novelty hats

Normally these kinds of events would take place in the likes of Edinburgh or Glasgow, but as a proud Fifes the organisers, Lisa Jones and Leanne Cairns, were incredibly keen to showcase Scotland's newest City of Dunfermline and could think of no place better for a group of hat enthusiasts to gather together for an afternoon stroll on this date than the beautiful Pittencrieff Park. The potential to showcase the beauty of Fife in springtime and bring tourism to the area could be huge, so tgey are hoping that years event will be a well-attended and would hope that if successful they could build this into an annual event that would encourage awareness of wearing hats, their beloved Millinery heritage craft and prevent it from being on the endangered list of crafts as well as bringing more tourism to the City of Dunfermline and Scotland as a whole.
Scotland Hat Walk will be supported by their chosen charity, Brain Tumour Research who are happy to promote and create awareness around their annual campaign to fundraise on WEAR A HAT DAY at end of March. The charity will be in attendance on the day too and will provide give aways to those in attendance. Most of the attendees and followers will be independent designers running small businesses as makers and online retailers through their own websites and other channels such as Etsy. We also welcome tutors, retailers, suppliers of materials and packaging as well as manufacturers of equipment and tools who are essential to the trade. Scotland Hat Walk is passionate about making sure that by pulling together we showcase our respective talents to demonstrate their worth, nurture our community and encourage development for the future.
