Recently a customer shared a link to something she'd found on partifi.org https://www.facebook.com/partifi – turns out that it was the Early Music Company's full score of Purcell's "King Arthur", complete with owner's mark so a link back to the person who had uploaded it was easy enough (DUH) and a full notice of "conditions of use" and copyright. Now, I understand that partifi can be useful when you find a score and there are no available parts but guess what? Parts for "King Arthur" are readily available at reasonable prices.
When I asked partifi to remove the score, I got this response: "Thanks for flagging this. We've removed the score. All the best."
Sorry, is that good enough? No apology? No explanation of how it had slipped through your publisher safeguarding? Is there copyright safeguarding? Does anyone care? Do we even need music publishers nowadays? Do I need to find another job to pay my bills and pension?
Seriously, this is not a victimless crime.
