NHS Tayside and Waverley Care were pleased to welcome Joe Fitzpatrick MSP and Councillor Heather Anderson from Dundee City Council today for a discussion about our shared commitment to eliminating new HIV transmissions in Scotland by 2030.

A key focus was the need to address and challenge the stigma surrounding HIV, which is essential to achieving this ambitious goal.

Managed Care Network Manager for Sexual Health & BBV, Donna Thain showcased the "I Pledge" campaign, developed in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council through the Fast-Track Cities initiative, and explored ideas to broaden its reach and impact across Tayside.

📢 HUGE NEWS for cancer patients in Tayside! 🎉

We've just upgraded our radiotherapy service with a brand-new, state-of-the-art linear accelerator (LINAC)! 🤩 This means more precise and targeted radiation therapy thanks to 3D technology. A second new LINAC is coming later this year!

A massive THANK YOU to our incredible therapy radiographers, physicists, and the entire team who worked tirelessly to make this happen with minimal disruption to patients. 🙏

Their dedication is truly inspiring!

📢 HUGE NEWS for Dundee's fight against food insecurity and waste! 🎉

Thanks to an £80,000 grant from NHS Tayside Charitable Foundation, Signpost International is expanding its incredible work! They rescue surplus food and transform it into nutritious frozen meals for those in need, AND teach valuable cooking and nutrition skills.

This means more meals (from 300 to 1,000 per week!), less food waste (saving a whopping 56 tonnes of food from landfill!), and a healthier community.

The waiting room at the Paediatric & Orthodontic Dentistry department has undergone a revamp thanks to a local artist.

The team got in touch with Bogusia Misztal to ask if she could use her talents to bring some colour to the waiting area. Bogusia, who is also a Staff Nurse at Ninewells Hospital, jumped at the chance and offered her services for free.

The artwork is primarily dental themed, but also features vibrant images of tropical sea plants, complementing the much-loved fish tank and creating a child-friendly atmosphere.

Bogusia said, “It was so brilliant to work alongside the staff at the Paediatric & Orthodontic dentistry department to make their vision a reality.

“I came up with a few ideas the team seemed really happy with and got to work. I’m so pleased with how it turned out and I’m already getting compliments from people about how great the space looks.”

Wendy Roud, Operations Manager for Dundee Dental Hospital, said “We are extremely grateful to Bogusia for dedicating her time, materials and artistic talent to making our waiting room a more pleasurable place for our patients to be. The feedback we have had, especially from children attending the department, has been overwhelming. They say it has made a huge difference to their experience when coming in for dental treatment.”
