More LCVs on the Road in 2024, But EV Challenges Linger 🚚⚡

Last year saw an uptick in light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales, climbing by 3% according to new figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). A total of 351,834 new vans, pick-ups, and 4x4s hit the roads. Impressive numbers, especially after a strong December with 27,221 new registrations.

Here's the breakdown:
- ✅ Largest weight class vans led the pack, rising by 2.1% to command 66.3% of the market.
- ✅ Medium and small van sales increased significantly, up 12.3% and 44.5% respectively.
- ✅ Deliveries of 4x4s and pick-ups weren't as fortunate, experiencing a decline by 9.7% and 8.3%.

However, one challenge remains - EV adoption. Despite a 3.3% uptick in electric van sales, they still only made up 6.3% of the market, echoing 2023's figures. The growth in EV models, reaching 33 in 2024, hasn't been matched by the development of public charge points. This gap in infrastructure continues to trouble fleet buyers and hampers greater EV integration.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, emphasised the importance of vans for UK's business movement and flagged the urgent need for better charging solutions to boost buyer confidence.

LCV sales rose in 2024 by three per cent, according to new figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
