LATER THIS YEAR...
John Parkinson (1874-1918) was a Scottish poet, essayist, and self-taught astronomer who converted to Islam and adopted the name Yehya-en-Nasr. He is recognised as the first British Muslim poet and made significant contributions to Islamic literature.
This newly released biography delves deeper into Parkinson’s life than ever before, tracing his journey from his beginnings in Kilwinning, Scotland, his Irish ancestry, a subject of great interest to him, to his emergence as what is now coined as ‘the Muslim Robert Burns’.
The book offers a comprehensive analysis of his spiritual struggles and enduring influence. It is an essential resource for those interested in the history of early British converts to Islam and the extraordinary resilience of human will, addressing gaps and enriching the narrative of his life last documented over a century ago.
