Great to see 'Narrow Escapes' is now out on Channel 4.

This is a big project I worked on as Dubbing Mixer last Autumn for the wonderfully talented Heidi and Alan Gomes at Bowled Over Media.

The new 20 part series follows many interesting characters and their stories about life on the canals, with a number of features on aspects of the waterway's infrastructure both historical and present. For example, the Anderton Boat Lift (which lifts boats 50ft from the river Weaver to the Trent & Mersey Canal) and also the stunning (and difficult to pronounce!) Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Both are quite major feats of engineering.

Not surprisingly, it also includes a great deal of beautiful scenery around the UK canal network though of course there is occasional wet weather too!

Well, what an epic show to end the final series (20) of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, a show I have now been involved with as a Dubbing Mixer for over 10 years; we will miss it and all the amazing community of talented people who made the most amazing things happen live on air over the years.

Alongside me in audio post this year has been Steve Watt (another SNT veteran Dubbing Mixer!) and Mark Hennessy - big thanks to them both...it's been a great team to work with.

This year, as in the last few years, we have deployed a mobile dubbing suite into a spare edit room at TVC allowing us to have two dubs in-house (the other being Studiowork's own). This comprised an iMac Mini running Pro Tools Ultimate, Avid 2xS1's + dock & iPad, RME UFX hardware, Focal SM9 monitors, a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Monitor 3G and 48" Panasonic premium flatscreen TV. The suite is also networked into Studiowork's Post.

Turnaround on this show is incredibly fast - we would often be mixing a 10-15 minute undercover VT on the Saturday afternoon. Speed, accuracy and reliability of kit are vital. Audio restoration is also really important due to the number of VT's which involve undercover and setup scenarios with maybe a few radio mics and many hidden mics. We were already using iZotope's RX10 Advanced extensively, but have also delved into some powerful AI plugins this year with amazing results. Great to hear that 'Abruptio', a surrealistic thriller/horror film which I mixed back in 2022, has just been taken on for distribution by Anchor Bay Entertainment.

The film is enacted with lifelike puppets set in the real world and features a top cast including Christopher McDonald (Thelma & Louise), Hana Mae Lee (Pitch Perfect Franchise), Jordan Peele (Get Out), Sid Haig (Halloween), Rich Fulcher (Wonka) and Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise).

Great to be back on Saturday Night Takeaway again this year. A move to working onsite has involved Raspberry South deploying a high end dubbing suite to Television Centre. Tech specs - Pro Tools HD with Avid S3 console, Focal SM9 monitors and Panasonic 55" Pro OLED Panel.
We have also provided a tracklay system based on the Avid S1. All systems have been integrated into BBC Studioworks network which allows for a fast turnaround workflow.
