As a grassroots coach, I'm simply a dad of a football player who stepped up when others chose not to. While I may not go down in history as one of the greatest technical coaches of my era, I hope to be remembered as someone who provided every child with an opportunity.

I aimed to help kids enjoy the game and find something positive to take away from every match, regardless of the outcome or their performance. At the same time, I sought to gently encourage them to become better players, teammates, and individuals each week, using my knowledge of the game to guide them.

No coach is perfect, and I've certainly made my fair share of mistakes and have some regrets. However, I wish to be remembered for the moments when I got it right and made a positive impact on the lives of my players.

Remember the high school days when you'd be looking forward to Friday night coming each week? You'd all meet up with your £5 pocket money, and you would put it towards 10 Richmond Super Kings and however much Frosty Jack or White Lightning you could get with all your money. Sometimes, when you got some extra money, you went all out to share a 70cl bottle of Glens vodka.

Sitting in the park, in the woods, or going all out in a back alley, saying, "Let's spin drink the bottle; it gets you more drunk," and listening to songs on your Sony Ericsson Walkman, like DJ Cammy and DJ Sammy, blasting out MC Smalley to see who could MC the whole song, and getting all angry at your cheating young love to the song "You've been cheating and telling me lies."

Absolutely steaming at 9 o'clock, paranoid about going in at your set time (around 10 PM), thinking your mum or dad is gonna ground you if she or he smells the cider on you, and deciding who's gonna take home the f**s to stash for the day after so you didn't get caught by your mum or dad.

Running around the streets, from back alley to back alley, dodging the police, always thinking that when you see a police car or van, they're generally coming for you. Good old days, eh? How fast have the years gone, and how much has changed? I genuinely look back at my past and don't regret much of it whatsoever; I had a top childhood!
