Save Radio Foyle Campaigners Call for BBC Bosses to Resign.
The Save Radio Foyle campaign have welcomed the damning findings of the annual Ofcom report into the activities of the BBC in relation to their output in the North West.
The broadcasting regulator found that the BBC were in breach of their operating conditions when they scaled back operations at Radio Foyle.
Spokesperson for Save Radio Foyle, Davy McAuley has condemned BBC bosses for ignoring local campaigners.
" The arrogance of BBC bosses both in Belfast and London was there for all to see.
We tried to tell them that in attempting to dismantle our station they were in breach of their own operating guidelines.
Adam Smyth, the Northern Ireland controller of BBC ran and hid rather than explain the changes he was making to our station.
Barely a day went by without us demanding a meeting with Smyth and his bosses.
We were completely ignored.
The contempt shown by BBC management will not be forgiven or forgotten by license payers in Derry.
BBC bosses ignored the campaigners, the National Union of Journalists and the workers at Radio Foyle.
The Save Radio Foyle campaign demands the resignation of Adam Smyth and the other senior management who imposed these cuts upon our local service.
We demand not just the restoration of Radio Foyle but new investment and more local output.
We do not believe that current BBC management is fit for purpose or capable of taking measures to undo the vast the harm that they have inflicted on our local radio station.
The BBC owes a huge apology to license payers in the North West and to the journalists, presenters and contributors of Radio Foyle. "
