I’ve been practicing henna art for 12 years now, and each year I get more passionate about the art. I love to meet my clients and to celebrate them with the beautiful art. Wether celebrating an even or milestone, for body positivity, or just because. Henna celebrates you and your life and although the stain only lasts a couple of weeks, the experience and memories created last a lifetime. Have you celebrated yourself with henna before?

I hope everyone has a better festive season than I am. I had to say goodbye to Dotty, one of my precious fur babies on 23nd. She went surrounded by those she loved and we had an early christmas dinner which both girls enjoyed. My partner and I feel so broken right now and our other girl, Mollie, has been struggling a lot and been very unsettled. We’re giving her lots of love and putting on her favourite films (she loves watching disney films with me and enjoys when we cuddle and I sing along to the songs to her).

This afternoon I have been able to get started on a large order of 20 woodland themed candles… 3 candles down, 17 more to go! There will be lots of wildflowers, bees, snails, mushrooms and more to come. 🙂

When the henna paste has dried, I’ll then need to seal it on so it doesn’t immediately just flake off. Once that’s done and dried, they’ll finally be ready. It takes a couple of days to make candles just in drying time so they aren’t quick to make, but they are so beautiful as unique home decor, so well worth the time and effort. 🙂

I adore adorning brides with henna. Yesterday I had the lovely Suzy ask for a light and delicate wildflower design with arrows incorporated in. I now have a new design menu for guests to choose their favourite style and layout which was a huge hit.

I’m braving the shave for macmillan cancer support on Saturday. I’ll be offering henna designs and will also have a selection of my henna candles available to buy, as well as hand crocheted goodies that I’ve been busy making up lately.

All money taken on the day will go to charity and it’ll be on a ‘pay what you like’ basis.

Thankyou to everyone who has donated money already- so far I have managed to raise £410. Lets see how much more we can raise for such a wonderful charity!

14 days until my shave date! So far I’ve got £300 in cash and pledges and another £30 on my fundraising page. I’m getting close to my £500 goal.

I’m donating 10% of any sales from my Twisted and Unravelled etsy shop made by 13th July to the fundraising. I’ll be offering henna designs, henna candles and some crochet items that I’ve made at the fundraiser event, Macmillan Cancer Support will be sending someone from their marketing team to take photos to potentially use in their future promotional material, and I’ve had a kind hairdresser from the midlands offer to come and help with the cut and that will then be taking my hair to make it into a wig for people with cancer, which he does in his spare time.

I’m super excited to brave the shave and see what having short hair is like, as I’ve been growing my hair since I was a child and can’t remember not having long hair.

I’ll be braving the shave on 13th July! I’ll be donating henna candles and will be offering natural henna designs. Since all money is going to charity, it’ll be on a ‘pay what you can’ basis. Donations taken through my brave the shave fundraising profile or cash.
I’m aiming to raise a minimum of £500, but £1000 would be incredible. If you can’t spare the money, sharing this post and helping spread the word will still help and be greatly appreciated. There’s even a chance that will be sending a photographer along to the event! It’s all very exciting!

I wrote and self publisehed a book when I was 20 and wanted to write and publish a second one by the time i got to 30 (not an e-book, but a physical published, hardback book, and have this one listed on amazon). I realised I’m 30 next year, so I’ve been getting started on working out what I want to include and writing down a LOT of notes to get started.

- To my fellow natural henna artists, I be wanting to do some interviews with different artists with different specialities and locations, consider yourselves warned! 🤣 and let me know if you’d like to be included, so I can add you to my list. (Need to work out all the questions as I work and flesh out the book- I’m sure that I’ll find a lot of questions as I go, and I don’t want to keep bugging everyone with new questions each week, so I’ll be asking when I know what I’d love to learn from everyone)

My book will be aimed for beginner artists and focusing on what I would have loved to have to hand when I first started.

About The Henna Peacock- More than just henna

The Henna Peacock was started by a love and passion for natural henna, and the art and culture that surrounded it.

Henna artist, Shelby was originally self taught and started offering her designs at local markets and fairs back in 2013. She then went on to study under a top henna artist in London, back in 201. From this she learnt a lot about creating beautiful, detailed bridal designs.

From there, she created The Henna Peacock, and since then has grown and evolved over time to become what it is today. In 2020, Shelby received her ICHNA certification (A prestigious award with a notoriously difficult pass rate, going over all aspects of henna, including the culture, how it is grown, the dangers of chemical henna). Shelby believes that natural henna is the only way to go, and only uses henna paste that she mixes herself.

Shelby uses recyclable packaging, and even her henna cones are made from super biodegradable cellophane, so that the Earth will never suffer for the beauty of her art.
