CenterParcs offers magic like nowhere else

When it comes to planning a summer holiday with young children, the decision-making process can be a difficult one. After speaking with friends who had recently visited CenterParcs and hearing about their positive experiences, I was intrigued to try it out myself. With children ages seven, three, and two, our daily routine is a whirlwind of organized chaos. Therefore, our holiday plans needed to be meticulously thought out. We decided to book a three-night stay at the Longford Forest site in July.
Upon arrival, we found the resort - located about an hour west of Dublin - the perfect setting for our family to create lasting memories together. Although we encountered some queues at the check-in gates in the afternoon, we could occupy ourselves with the resort's facilities until we were able to settle into our spacious, clean lodge at 4 pm.
Opting for a three-bedroom lodge in the central area proved to be ideal, as it provided proximity to the main village area, the pool, and the cycle centre. Renting bikes was a must to navigate the expansive site, and the bike hire service came with locks and helmets, making it a hassle-free experience.
One of the highlights of our stay was the subtropical swimming paradise, offering an array of slides and pools suitable for all ages. From lazy rivers to thrilling slides, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The resort also offered a wide range of activities, from pottery-making to zip-lining, ensuring that there was never a dull moment.
Dining options at CenterParcs were equally enjoyable, with a mix of diner choices and the option to have barbecues on the lodge's patio overlooking the forest. Despite the unpredictability of the weather, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to dine al fresco and relish the outdoors.
Overall, our experience at Center Parcs was nothing short of exceptional. While the activities may be on the pricier side and require booking in advance, the quality of the offerings and the ease of access to facilities made it worthwhile. The resort's family-friendly atmosphere and emphasis on outdoor living made it a memorable and enjoyable holiday destination for all.
If you are fond of outdoor adventures, seeking thrilling activities, and creating cherished memories with loved ones, I highly recommend considering a trip to CenterParcs.

East Broadway Theatre Company brings Peter Pan to Stage this summer!
East Broadway Theatre Company is a local theatre group based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Founded in 2016, they began their journey in a living room with a vision for performance. In their inaugural year, they staged a delightful “Night at The Musicals” and also performed a play they had written at Sunflowerfest. Their motto is simple yet powerful: “teach, inspire, perform.”
This cross-community, non-profit charitable organization aims to provide theatre opportunities for all and want to instil confidence in the young people who work with them through, singing, dancing and acting. Whether you’re passionate about theatre or simply want to learn more and make friends, East Broadway invites you to join them as they create together.
ALEX MCKELVEY is CO-OWNER AND MUSICAL DIRECTOR of East Broadway Theatre Company. Alex studied at Bath Spa University and obtained a Certificate of Higher Education in Musical Theatre in 2018. He started his passion for performing at Belvoir Players Theatre Academy, where he has been a member for 15 years. Alex also musically directs for many theatre companies in Northern Ireland including, NISMAT, Rainbow Factory, New Lodge Arts and Queens Musical Theatre Society.

She has performed with the Opera House Summer Youth Project and was a member of Belvoir Players for 5 years performing in both their academy musicals and pantomimes. Katie has most recently obtained a high distinction in her grade 6 musical theatre exam. She hopes that through East Broadway she can bring her passion for mental health awareness and the benefits of theatre to young performers.
Development officer Chloe Moreland has been in theatre for 10 years, playing roles from ensemble to leads. She achieved highest in her class for GCSE and A-Level drama which gave her the passion that she now has for theatre. Agnew Group Renews Commitment to Mental Health Charity MindWise, www.mindwisenv.org

Having already raised over £160k, the car dealership has pledged continued support for a further two years to the Beyond Bricks Programme which benefits schools across NI.

Prominent car dealership Agnew has announced the extension of its partnership with mental health charity MindWise for an additional two years, solidifying its commitment to supporting the Beyond Bricks programme — an initiative that reaches out to the younger generation.

Beyond Bricks uses Lego-based play to enhance the mental health and well-being of children in schools across Northern Ireland.

Since the inception of the partnership with MindWise, a leading mental health charity, in mid-2020, it has been dedicated to addressing the increasing need for mental health support among employees and their families.

In 2022, the business identified the Beyond Bricks Programme as a targeted initiative and exceeded its fundraising target, raising an impressive £85,000. In 2023, its commitment continued with a target of £50,000, and the team surpassed that with a contribution of £77,000 at the end of 2023.

The Beyond Bricks programme has made a significant impact, assisting the charity in delivering 40 classes, benefiting 114 school staff, and impacting the lives of 1089 young people in 2023 alone.

It follows five key aspects of emotional wellbeing – self-awareness, motivation, self-control, social resilience and coping but with only 7.94% of primary schools in Northern Ireland having received the programme, Agnew Group is committing to an additional two years of support in 2024 and 2025 so the benefits can be felt further.

Yuile Magee, Managing Director of Agnew, said: "We are delighted to partner with MindWise for another two years. The Beyond Bricks programme is excellent, reaching children early in life, and providing them with tools to navigate their mental health. We are proud to contribute to this initiative and support MindWise in their mission.

"We aim to forge a robust legacy through active community engagement and ensure our ongoing support is dedicated to sustaining and communicating the programme's impact within the broader school community.”

Anne Doherty, Chief Executive of MindWise, added: "We are delighted to have Agnew support our work for another two years. Their commitment enables us to support the mental health and wellbeing resiliency of our young people – there is much to be done. The case for early intervention and prevention is well documented. Despite this, there is limited or no provision for mental health education and training in youth settings, especially in schools. Only 8% of the Department of Health’s Mental Health budget is allocated to child and adolescent services. However, with support from Agnew, MindWise is addressing some of the key issues affecting our children as Beyond Bricks aligns with the NI Department of Health’s Mental Health Strategy 2021-2031 (Action 6).

“MindWise look forward to continuing our collaboration with Agnew and, on behalf of the school communities we work with across Northern Ireland, we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the Agnew Charity Champions.”

To commemorate the renewed partnership with MindWise, Agnew Group hosted a thank-you lunch for its 'Charity Champions' at Deanes at Queens.

BOOST SPORT NAMED ANTRIM COAST HALF MARATHON’S OFFICIAL HYDRATION PARTNER

As part of its There’s a BOOST for That campaign, BOOST Sport has joined forces with the Antrim Coast Half Marathon to become the official hydration partner for the 2024 race.

The race, which takes place on August 25th, will be broadcast on BBC iPlayer and via the Red button, and attract running stars from around the world, including Kenya’s Hillary Chekwony and Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw who will target her UK & Ireland All Comers Record.

BOOST, whose sports drink range includes Orange, Raspberry and Mango, Mixed Berry, Tropical Berry and the new Limited Edition Watermelon and Lime flavours, are the perfect hydration solution to ensure runners can always perform at their best, explained Lucy Manby, Brand Manager, Boost Drinks.

“BOOST’s isotonic sports drinks help to quickly replace key electrolytes and fluid lost through sweat when we run. So, by becoming the official hydration partner of the Antrim Coast Half Marathon we hope to keep the thousands of runners, from beginner to experienced, hydrated so that they can focus on performing at their best.”, said Lucy.

Participants in the half marathon will have access to BOOST’s hydration stations along the course, ensuring they stay refreshed and fuelled from start to finish.

Lucy continued: “BOOST Sport is a drink for everyone, elite and beginner. We know that thousands of runners with little experience take part in the Antrim Coast Half Marathon, alongside elite runners, and we want you to know that BOOST Sport will be cheering for you all on August 25th.”

Taking place on the scenic Antrim Coast, the half marathon has quickly become one of the most anticipated running events in the UK and Ireland and the 2024 edition promises to be the most exhilarating yet.

Ruth McIlroy, Event Director of the Antrim Coast Half Marathon, said: “We are so proud to say that our hydration partner for the 2024 race is BOOST Sport. The BOOST Sport range is isotonic, so they are a smart way for runners to stay hydrated as they make their way around the stunning course.

"The Antrim Coast Half Marathon is committed to enhancing the experience of our runners. Partnering with BOOST Sport allows us to provide a crucial aspect of race day preparation and performance. We believe this collaboration will significantly benefit all participants and contribute to a successful and memorable event."

Runners, spectators, and the entire local community can look forward to an unforgettable event on the stunning coastal route, hydrated by BOOST Sport. MAKE YOURS A FAVOURIT SUMMER BBQ
With over 100 years of honing their range, Favourit is a cook’s best friend

The warmer weather is back which means that lovers of alfresco dining across Northern Ireland can finally fire up their barbecues.

Tong wielding, marinade making barbecuers will be gearing up for a summer of grilling. To ensure excellence and variety on everyone’s plates, Favourit herbs and spices, with the help of top NI chef, Ian Hunter, have put together some top barbecue tips for passionate cooks.

Ella Freeman, Brand Manager, Favourit, said: “Northern Ireland people love gathering their friends and family for lazy summer barbecues, our workplaces host them and the air at our public parks is regularly filled with the aromatic smells of sizzling meats when the weather is nice. We’re a nation of barbecue kings and queens.”

With age comes wisdom, Northern Ireland’s very own herbs and spices supplier, Favourit, which has been produced in Belfast for over 100 years, has a range of lip-smacking flavours and seasonings that will elevate your barbecue.

“Favourit herbs and spices offer truly exceptional options that bring out the natural flavours of beef, pork, lamb, fish, vegetables, as well as being the perfect ingredients in numerous sweet and savoury treats. We hope our herbs and spices, handy hints and top tips will give your food the recognition it deserves this summer”, said Ella.

Favourit together with head chef, Ian Hunter, from Belfast Cookery School, have some tips for the perfect plate of grilled food.

• Marinades - 24hrs before the BBQ, marinade your meats, seafood and vegetables. This is for a couple of reasons but primarily for flavour and seasoning. With the addition of cider vinegar to the marinade, the acid starts to break down the protein, tenderising the meat and locking in moisture. My go to BBQ marinade is 1 tbl spoon of Favourit Onion Salt, Favourit BBQ Seasoning, dried dill, dried oregano, black pepper, honey and 350ml olive oil.
• Flavoured salts - in a blender or mortar and pestle, add sea salt and herbs and spices of your personal choice! For example, Favourit Garlic Salt, Favourit Ground Ginger, Favourit Hot Chilli Powder, Favourit Cajun Seasoning, Favourit Smoked Paprika … the choice is endless and adds a final burst of flavour and seasoning to your meat, veg and seafood.
• Basting - in a bowl of olive oil add sea salt, black pepper, pink peppercorns, Favourit Garlic Salt, Favourit Onion Salt, Favourit Thyme and Favourit Oregano, and a pinch of Favourit Smoked Paprika. Use this to brush and baste while you are grilling to add flavour and moisture to your meat, seafood and vegetables. If you want to take it a step further, tie bunches of fresh rosemary and thyme to a wooden spoon and use that as your basting brush.
• Get an excellent ‘BARK’ to your meat - in a spray bottle add apple juice and flavourings of your choice 24hrs before the BBQ to let the flavours infuse. Just before and during the grilling liberally spray the steak or meat with the flavoured apple juice. The sugar content in the juice will caramelise and produce an amazing flavoursome crust to your steaks, meat and fish. For steaks I would recommend Favourit Thyme, Favourit Garlic Salt and Favourit BBQ Seasoning; and for seafood, Favourit Dill, lemon peel, Favourit Hot Chilli Powder.
• Grill cleaning - don’t spend money on expensive and harmful chemicals! Whilst there is a little bit of heat left in the grill, cut a large onion in half, place on a fork and rub it across the grill. The acid in the onion will clean and remove any carbon from grilling. Also, if you do the same before cooking with a raw potato, the starch in the spud makes your grill nonstick – you’re welcome!

Ian Hunter, Belfast Cookery School, said: “Favourit herbs and spices are every home cook’s best friend as they allow you to dial up flavours from across the world, closer to home. Who doesn’t love a bit of heat from Favourit’s Cajun Seasoning and Crushed Chillies or the unmistakable Chinese 5 Spice, which really elevates chicken skewers in the best way possible. Don’t forget the classics from the Favourit range like Basil and Oregano as these flavours can enhance beef or lamb chops. With over 40 herbs, spices and seasonings to choose from I suggest you get creative this summer and treat your loved ones to a Favourit summer BBQ.”

Ella concluded: “Via our distribution partner, GM Marketing, we look forward to helping the whole country have a summer of memorable BBQ feasts.”
