Our Story
The Warwick Economics Summit (WES) is the largest student-run Economics summit in Europe. Now having run for nearly two decades, the Summit has evolved in form and stature into a truly international forum where talented students from various universities listen to some of the world's most revered and inspirational speakers on a wide range of topics. In its previous incarnations, the Summit has welcomed high calibre speakers, such as five Economics Nobel Laureates including Prof. George Akerlof and Prof. John F. Nash, Central Bank officials such as Vitor Constancio (Vice President of ECB) and Dr. Stanley Fischer (Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve), former Prime Ministers such as Enrico Letta (Italy) and Lionel Zinsou (Benin), and many other distinguished speakers such as Min Zhu (Deputy MD of the IMF) and Michael Moller (Director-General of the UN office at Geneva). Considering the high-profile speakers that addressed the conference, WES has gathered significant media attention throughout the years. In the past, WES consistently attracted coverage from media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Reuters and Le Monde. WES has become an event not to miss on the global calendar, as students travel from all around the world to attend our conference. Past delegations came not only from the UK (LSE, Oxford, Cambridge...), but also from the US (Harvard, UC Berkeley, Princeton University, Stanford University...), Italy (Bocconi University), Sweden (Malmö University), Russia (Kazan State University), Spain (ESADE) and Turkey (Bilkent University) to name but a few. However, the Summit is not just an intellectual experience. On the Saturday night of the weekend, we host the ever-popular Summit Ball. This glamorous evening includes a wine reception, 3-course dinner and provides a fantastic setting for our delegates to unwind and socialise. Finally, the presence of WES extends well beyond the conference weekend, as we organise a series of stand-alone events throughout the year, and keep the conversation on current affairs alive through our social media channels.
