Colchester's No.1 Recording & Rehearsal Studio This studio space has been in the game since 1989 and a lot has changed since it began.

Unit One is owned by Wayne Thompson, a popular local drummer, recording engineer and teacher in Colchester, Essex. Since his arrival in July 2017, the studio has seen some big changes and with many more to come!

Unit One is located in the Eastgates Industrial Estate, with easy and quick access to Colchester town and it's amenities. The business began in 1989, it started under the name Legends S

tudios. Back then, the unit was bare, with no rooms and no equipment. 3 rooms were built, soundproofed and equipped with quality gear. Since then, it has seen many changes. One of which lasted for 11 years while the ownership was under the responsibility of the Moodie family. Along side the management of their local music store Music Warehouse, they took over Legend Studios and changed the name to the Unit One name you know now and also added an extra 4th room.

It is now going through even more change. Since Wayne has taken over, a lot of planning and forward thinking has taken place and soon, big changes will be seen happening throughout the studio. New gear, new rooms and a new name is all set to happen in the near future.

Along with free tea and coffee facilities :)

A new look for the lobby area at Unit One Studios 😍

I have wanted to modernise the space for a while now but it also had to be durable and hard wearing to allow for the little bumps and scratches that inevitably happen, especially in a place like this with bands carrying heavy gear in and out every day.

And I'm very happy with the result!

There are a lot of exciting things going on in the background here at the studio! Keep an eye out for more news to come!

Found some time today to give the rehearsal rooms some TLC, looking good 🤩

It's been a busy year so far with plenty of recording, teaching and rehearsals taking place.

A massive thanks to the lovely guys at Ashdown for the upgrades!

The old Evo iii bass amps had a long life but after a few breakdowns and a few repairs, we ultimately decided it was time to retire the old and bring in the new.

The 9 band EQ's on these new Evo IV heads are a great addition, I've already had plenty of compliments from the bassists that frequently use the studio space.

Exciting news! A very good friend of Unit One is launching a brand new kids' rock choir and it's going to be amazing!

If your little ones love to sing and rock out to their favourite tunes, this is perfect for them 🎤

Today is the first taster day for Voxygen in Mersea, we'll be there supporting the session as part of the band.

Who doesn't love new gear!

I finally have the legendary SM7B as part of the studio's microphone collection 😍

This one is the SM7dB and features a built in preamp. I'm very much looking forward to experimenting with this in future recording sessions 🙌

It may be small, but for a channel that myself and Heidi have spent little time promoting, 1000 subscribers is a nice number to hit.

There have been so many amazing comments made on the content we have done and it's interesting to see how far we have progressed after watching them all back to back.

We are both still learning, I'm not the best with a camera but I do what I can 😅

Heidi is learning to control the dreaded red light fever when it comes to recording, she's doing an amazing job!

We will be doing more and are looking forward to putting more time and effort into recording at the studio, I know a lot of you have wondered when the next one is.

Thank you to all of you that have supported us, it helps a lot to know that you get something out of these videos ❤️

And being a drummer myself, I get a little excited each time I get to record the different variety of set ups.

I may need to find a balance between drum talk and actually working during these sessions though 😅

Keeley - Misery

Heidi's sister Keeley has been in the studio today and this is what she came out with 🤩 She's been feeling a little down during the half term week so we had her in to have a little sing song which cheered her up! This is a song she wrote herself and what a lovely sound she's got!

Jane has been coming to the studio for years now and she has just started to venture into creating live versions of her songs, so she came to us for some help in making this happen. She was a little nervous at first but she has been pushing herself to get in front of the camera and we think they've come out great!
