Over the past months, Transport for Wales has increased its engineering work along the Coryton line in preparation for electrifying the line in early November 2024. This marks a significant milestone in the South Wales Metro programme and will allow TfW to introduce new trains on the Coryton line from spring 2025.

Transport for London (TfL) has awarded a contract to Dragados UK & Ireland for the design and construction of new passenger tunnels at Elephant & Castle Tube station, which will link the new station box to the existing platforms and overbridge. Rolls-Royce and European rail vehicle leasing company Alpha Trains Group are planning to conclude a framework agreement for up to 1,000 overhauls of the mtu drive systems used in Alpha Trains’ fleet of diesel railcars, which consists of the Talent, Desiro and Lint series. The corresponding letter of intent was signed by both companies at Innotrans, the leading international trade fair for rail and transport technology, which took place in Berlin at the end of September 2024.
