Staircase of the Duino Castle (Castello Di Duino ), in Italy, near Trieste. Who doesn't enjoy originality and pleasant craziness of the story about Alice in Wonderland? This photo caught our attention with exactly that – it's interesting and unusual, captured by Sara Jazbar

Webinar: 'The Caring Camera’ By Lara Jackson - Wildlife

Tomorrow , a scientist and award-winning wildlife photographer on a mission to raise awareness, will conduct a webinar on how photography transcends language and can create a visual impact more powerful than mere words. Whether it’s documenting the illegal wildlife trade, illustrating a wild animal that’s been exploited, or simply creating images of wildlife in their natural habitat, photography can be emotional, inspiring and educational. Not all of us have the opportunity to travel widely, but there are countless subjects closer to home, many of them largely unseen.

Send us a Direct Message for more details on how to sign up.

Autumn colours in Canada. This beautiful shot of Forks of the Credit Provincial Park in Ontario was captured by gifted travel photographer Sayantan Basu. Picture yourself taking a walk in place of that couple on it... Then tell us, don't you find yourself smiling?

The Nikon SP

The Nikon SP (S for series, P for professional) emerged at the end of the 35 mm Rangefinder Era as arguably the most advanced rangefinder of its time. It competed directly with the other great rangefinder systems: the Leica M3, the Zeiss Contax IIA, and the Canon 7sZ.

With its titanium focal plane shutter, single finder accommodating 6 focal lengths, and motor drive coupling, the SP was assured a place among the world’s best 35mm cameras.

Available for purchase at Grays of Westminster.

An excerpt from Tony Hurst Gallery, written by Gray Levett

📸 15mm f/5.6 Nikkor QD.C Lens 📸

“In 1970 at the Photokina Trade Show in Cologne, Nikon unveiled their new 15mm f/5.6 Nikkor QD1 lens for the first time. The huge half-domed front lens and the precise, deeply notched tulip-style lens hood upon which the lens data was engraved were both prominent features.

It had four built-in filters (skylight L1A, medium yellow Y48, orange O56, and red R60) which could be inserted by depressing a small locking lever. The 15mm f/5.6 Nikkor QD had a high practical value and was often used in artistic photography. The integrated automatic close-range correction helped insure the highest picture quality of close-up subjects. Serial numbers began with 321001 or possibly 320001, according to the information from Japan.

In 1974 a new version of the 15mm lens appeared...” p.45

ABOUT LARA JACKSON

Lara is first and foremost a conservation biologist, on a mission to raise awareness. She also happens to be an award-winning wildlife photographer including a Highly Commended in the 2021 Wildlife Photographer of the Year for the image above. Her research work has taken her all over the globe, from the dry forests of Madagascar to the tropical rainforests of Belize, and from rhinos roaming the savanna to dolphins gliding through waves. She now lives on the island of Mull in Scotland where she delights not only in photographing the extensive wildlife but sharing it in an ethical and responsible way with others.

Lara is a Nikon creator although admits she shot on full auto for the first two and a half years of her photographic journey, and does not regret it. Learn about your subjects, watch them with and without your camera, anticipate behaviour, and only then worry about settings and what you might do better. “Ethical wildlife photography for me is about never ever disturbing the animal. It’s capturing natural behaviours and, if the animal is stressed, or aware of your presence, or you’re doing something you shouldn’t be, then you’re not going to see that behaviour. Even if it was a once-in-a-lifetime shot that was going to win me 100 awards around the world, I would rather miss it than know that I’ve negatively impacted that animal.”

Dawn at Ogmore Castle captured by talented David Spencer. Isn't it beautiful with its mysterious and suspense filled aura? You almost expect a wetland monster or a werewolf to come out there at full moon. Thank you Dave for sharing your gorgeous work!

Afan Forest. Would you take a walk in these woods? This photograph grabbed our attention with the contrast of the rainbow umbrella on the overall mysterious and dark tones of the forest. We think it's brilliant! Thank you to the photographer David Spencer who shared it with us.
