Swipe for sustainability in our Tate Warehouse! ➡️

We are a little late for , but we still wanted to share all the great sustainability efforts happening in our warehouse.

📦 Packaging in the warehouse is recycled and recyclable, from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) sources.

🌳 100% of waste has been diverted from landfill this year.

💡 All the lights in the warehouse are LED and the lorry is Euro 6 Emissions Compliant.

🏠 13.1% of non-recyclable waste is incinerated through carbon filters and used to heat local homes.

ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT | TATE PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES out now! 🌟

This is the second set in this series - a powerful celebration of photography by some of the most significant photographers in the world today.

From left to right:

▪ CLAUDIA ANDUJAR: Attempting to translate visually the shamanic culture of the Yanomami, one of Brazil's largest indigenous groups, she experiments with a variety of techniques to create visual distortions, imbuing her images with a feeling of the otherworldly.

▪ CHRIS KILLIP: Chris Killip (1946–2020) was one of the most influential British photographers of his generation. He is best known for his black and white images of people and places, especially in the North East of England in the 1970s and 1980s.

▪ RICHARD MOSSE: Comprising film and photography made over three years spent in the Amazon rainforest it has been described by the Economist as ‘Powerful and urgent – a reminder of art’s ability of shift perceptions.’

▪ LIEKO SHIGA: Lieko Shiga makes intimate portraits, set among mystical landscapes and interiors, integrating her personal experiences with grander mythologies into surreal and fantastical images.

The final volume in our forthcoming Tate Photography Series captures the beauty and the horror in war and destruction in the work of Richard Mosse. Born in Ireland and now based in New York, he has worked in many different countries, and has spent years in the Amazon, revealing the unfolding tragedy there.

Both heartbreaking and startlingly beautiful, Mosse's images once seen cannot be forgotten.

Chris Killip (1946–2020) was one of the most influential British photographers of his generation. His boundless curiosity and empathy drew him toward groups and places otherwise overlooked.

Documenting communities living in the North East England's reclining industrial landscape, this new volume in our Tate Photography Series focuses on Killip's remarkable 'Seacoal' and 'Skinningrove' series.

Focusing on her series 'RASEN KAIGAN (Spiral Coast)' 2008–12, Shiga captures the devastating aftermath of the 2011 tsunami in the village of Kitakama, crafting intimate portraits set among mystical landscapes.

⛵ Alfred Wallis was born in 1855. A Cornish mariner and scrap metal dealer, Wallis was a self-taught artist and began to paint around 1925, his 70th year, following the death of his wife three years earlier.

🔺 Happy birthday Naum Gabo! 🔻

⚒️ Principally known as the main protagonist of the Constructivist movement in the 1920s, Russian artist Naum Gabo (1890–1977) created some of the most inspirational sculptures of the twentieth century.

🌍 He travelled extensively to the hubs of modernism in Europe, spending time with the de Stijl, Bauhaus, and Mondrian’s Abstraction-Creation group — later moving to Cornwall, where his influence on the St Ives group can be seen in the work of Barbara Hepworth and Peter Lanyon, amongst others.

📕 Containing over 140 colour illustrations, including photographs from private archives and the artist’s family collections, our dedicated monograph is an accessible and comprehensive guide to Gabo's life and work.

Today marks 75 years of the National Health Service.

💙 In 2020, created a series of zoom-based paintings of the frontline NHS staff from Merseyside who worked tirelessly for their community during the pandemic and continue to work to keep us safe.

💙 Talking to her sitters via video link from her studio in the USA, Aliza Nisenbaum created a series of poignant and powerful portraits. Each sitter was depicted with the things that sustained them and gave them hope during that time.

💙 'Taking Care' is a joy to behold and a powerful record of an extraordinary artistic project that depicts the importance and value of the NHS.
