In an era defined by technological innovation and an evolving understanding of accessibility, the concept of future-proofing homes is gaining momentum in support of the ageing and disabled population with calls for the Government to raise building standards so that ‘accessible and adaptable’ design is a mandatory baseline for all new homes.

Smart door technologies encompass a range of features designed to improve convenience, security, and accessibility.

According to National Autistic Society, stimming or self-stimulating behaviour includes (but is not limited to) arm or hand-flapping, finger-flicking, rocking, jumping, spinning or twirling, head-banging and complex body movements.

It includes the repetitive use of an object, such as flicking a rubber band or twirling a piece of string, or repetitive activities involving the senses (such as repeatedly feeling a particular texture).

Unless the person is at risk of harming themselves or others, there’s no need to stop someone from stimming. It’s a great way for them to regulate themselves and can be enjoyable and reduce stress.
