Ooer!

Ooer!

Luck. Sometimes you create your own, sometimes it is gifted and sometimes a combination of both.

You may recall an appeal earlier this month for Lee Staples, who was wanted for several offences.

Information received enabled us to make further enquiries and ascertain that there was a good chance that we may find him travelling around on a bus. Not knowing exactly which bus did not deter our officers and after several tenacious attempts, we eventually located the right one with Mr Staples on board. A different mode of transport and destination was then offered to him...

To everyone who provides information about our appeals and gives us that little bit of luck - thank you. You help us make Swindon safer.

We would also like to thank all those on the buses, including the drivers, for their patience and tolerance at the unexpected stop. A slightly different trip than the one you were expecting.

You can continue to provide information and intelligence via 101, our website or anonymously via Crimestoppers

We are appealing for witnesses following a collision between a car and a child in Potterne.

At around 8.20am on October 4 on Blackberry Lane an 8-year-old boy was cycling along the lane when a car hit his bike, causing him to fall off.

The child sustained several injuries including a head injury, not thought to be life threatening and was checked over by ambulance staff.

The doors have opened to our brand new Emergency Department this morning, Wednesday 18 September, with the first patients moved into the department at 8.00am.πŸ’™πŸ‘πŸ₯³

The Β£33.5million urgent and emergency care expansion is the biggest ever investment to the hospital site and follows the opening of the Urgent Treatment Centre and OUH Radiotherapy @ Swindon Centre in 2022, which already represent a huge investment in Swindon’s healthcare infrastructure.

With a 60 per cent bigger footprint, the new Emergency Department will ensure unplanned healthcare provision is fit for the increasing demand and growing population of the town and surrounding areas.

All walk-ins should continue to enter the building via the Urgent Treatment Centre. You will be triaged at the door and signposted to the right place for your care needs. Only ambulances arrive directly to the Emergency Department.

Local people are being encouraged to continue to use healthcare services wisely, calling NHS 111 in the first instance, visiting a GP or pharmacist and only coming to hospital for serious or life-threatening conditions.πŸ₯

Thank you to our teams and partners who have worked extremely hard to support the opening of such a significant milestone for the organisation.

Sepsis affects around 245,000 people every year, and is sadly the leading cause of death in hospitals around the world.

Here in Swindon, around 800 patients are admitted to our Emergency Department with suspected sepsis each month.

Our Acute Sepsis and Kidney Injury (ASK) team work extremely hard to ensure that 94 per cent of these patients receive lifesaving treatment, including antibiotics, oxygen therapy, intravenous fluids and blood sampling within an hour of arriving to hospital.

Riyaad Jondah, ASK team, said: "For World Sepsis Day this year, our team want to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of sepsis. Any adult may have sepsis if they show any of theses signs: slurred speech or confusion, extreme shivering or muscle pain, passing no urine (in a day), severe breathlessness or mottled skin.

If you suspect sepsis, always seek medical help urgently by calling 999 or visiting us in the Emergency Department."

Easy to put waste food in a caddy. Why not? πŸ€” πŸ’œ

β€œI’ve seen my food waste thrown in the refuse lorry!” πŸ΄β™»οΈ

Lots of residents have told us they’re worried that their food waste isn’t being recycled properly.

What you may not know is that our refuse lorries have two compartments, one that holds the non-recycled waste and one that holds food waste collected for recycling.

Crews will tip the food waste caddies from your street into one bright red wheelie bin, which is then emptied into the food waste compartment of the lorry. We've recently introduced red wheelie bins for this process as we received feedback from some residents who thought the food waste was being mixed in with general refuse. This has never been the case

All food waste is taken to a company in Wiltshire, where a process called anaerobic digestion is used to break it down. This generates methane which is collected and converted into biogas that is used to generate electricity.

It also creates a nutrient-rich digestate, that is used as a fertiliser for agriculture and in land regeneration.

Join the thousands of residents who are already using our food waste collection service - you might be surprised about the amount that ends up in your caddy. Search 'Food Waste' on our website to get started.
