The Dalton Highway - famed for being the remotest road on Earth, is situated in northern Alaska, starts just north of Fairbanks, where you can hire bikes and heads due north following the length of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline (well at least a part of it) all the way to Deadhorse. It’s a graded road that is under constant repair due to the weather and heavy traffic, and climbs well above the Arctic circle where the permafrost is 2,000 feet deep, so don’t expect a great deal of cover if the weather turns south. And Deadhorse is a dry town, so go prepared! On route, there’s not a lot, one gas station about the midway point, so you will have to carry fuel. And a lot of cash, as the accommodation on route and in Deadhorse is costly. But then again, it’s the remotest road on Earth.
