The benefits of performing arts 😀👩‍💁‍🎭🎹🎼 Pauline Quirke Academy

The performing arts is a wide and vibrant industry including theatre, music, dance, film making and more. With its many facets, it can open up a world of possibility for young people to develop and grow in an environment that is safe and supportive. By providing a platform for creativity, fostering confidence and promoting a sense of connectedness and community, the performing arts play a vital role in shaping young peoples’ lives.

Be confident
Confidence is fundamental to a young person’s development; it enables them to try new things and succeed and fail. The performing arts naturally helps young people build confidence as they practice routines, perform in front of fellow students, family and friends and receive and act on feedback. All this work culminates in the thrill of performing for an audience, with the knowledge that they have built the skills to create great work.

Be creative
Of course, the performing arts are an outlet for creativity! Whether learning a dance routine, acting in a play or pitching a film idea, the performing arts give young people an opportunity to use their imagination and express themselves. Flexing their creative muscles allows them to think outside the box and find creative solutions to problems they encounter in their everyday lives.

Be connected
There are very few industries that rely on teamwork as much as the performing arts. Whether rehearsing, performing, or filming, the industry allows young people to connect with others who share their passion forming bonds, deepening their empathy and developing compassion.

The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (https://www.pqacademy.com) believes that the performing arts can have a huge, positive impact on the lives of young people. Every week, its students learn new skills and make new friends though three core modules: Comedy & Drama, Film & Television and Musical Theatre. Through the ethos of Be Yourself, Be Amazing, its students have the confidence to put themselves out there, the creativity to think differently and the community to feel supported whilst doing so.

The Big Schools’ Birdwatch – 6 Jan-20 Feb!

The Big Schools’ Birdwatch is back for 2023, bigger and with even more resources than before! Your child’s school can join thousands of others around the UK to find out which birds visit your school grounds.

The Big Schools’ Birdwatch is a simple bird survey for pupils to take part in and enjoy together. This activity is about counting the number of birds in your school grounds. The results also contribute to the Big Garden Birdwatch – the world’s largest wildlife survey.

The Big Schools Birdwatch runs from the 6th January – 20th February 2023 and is an educational activity that gets your class closer to nature. It takes just an hour and works for all ages and abilities.

Schools can get involved by visiting the RSPB Registration at https://www.rspb.org.uk/fun-and-learning/for-teachers/schools-birdwatch/

Have a pre-schooler at home? Why not conduct your own fun bird watch! There are some fun survey sheet you can download from the website with pictures of the birds you might commonly spot! There are other fun activities to do too!

Tree dressing, in the first week of December, is based on many old customs from all over the world. Tree Dressing Day falls on the first weekend of December and has grown to become much more than an expression of a love for trees. It is a chance for the whole community to gather and celebrate the leafy friends we all have in common. It’s also a chance for communities to reflect on the social and cultural history of their local area, and the role trees have played in shaping this story.

Of course many this weekend may be dressing their Christmas trees as we enter the month of December and the countdown to Christmas begins! Happy dressing!
