Breaking News: The Prime Minister has announced that England will enter national lockdown, meaning there is a material risk of the NHS being overwhelmed within three weeks.

The advice is to stay at home and only leave home for the following reasons allowed in law:
▪️ Work (if you absolutely cannot work from home)
▪️ Shop for essentials
▪️ Exercise
▪️ Seek medical assistance (including for Covid-19 testing)
▪️ To escape harm or domestic abuse

The Prime Minister has also announced that all primary and secondary schools will be moving to remote learning from tomorrow (Tuesday January 5) with the exception of children of critical workers and vulnerable children. Special Schools, nurseries and pre-school settings will remain open.

More details of the new restrictions can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus

ATTENTION🤍

After the announcement that the government will no longer be providing free school meals during the half term for those less fortunate, the Ship Inn would love to do our bit for our local community and help.
If you are from the Burnham area and are not able to provide a hot lunch for your children during the holiday then please contact us and we will be more than happy to help. We will offer a collection service for a hot children’s meal to take away Tuesday to Friday next week.

We promise to keep all information confidential and we ask nothing in return: there is no charge and it’s totally free.
No child deserves to go hungry! Where the government has stepped down, we are stepping up and making sure our local children get food they need over the school holidays. Times are even harder than usual and we all need to stick together during these difficult times.

To arrange this, please contact us on 07934913973.

Essex Police advise families to take a selfie as soon as they get to the beach:

"An up to date photo of your children, including what they are wearing that day, will be a massive help to the Coastguard and other emergency services if you report your children as missing.

"Children are notorious for wandering off and going on adventures without telling anyone. They are usually only missing for a very short time but seconds count.

"Keep these photos private and don't post them to social media as it highlights that your house may be empty but could also be used for malicious reasons at the beach."

Don't forget to water your Christmas tree. If a dry tree catches fire it can engulf a room in flames in just 30 seconds. Trees that are watered stay moist and are a smaller risk.

Our tip: as well as watering, keep a smoke detector near the tree, and check those old Christmas lights for faults.
