Yesterday I completed my first gilding job for an awesome new Herbalist moving to market square in Newcastle Emlyn.

Even with step-by-step guidance from super-pro there were still challenges…

Gloss pulling off the fascia…
Paper sticking to glue instead of gold leaf…

I designed the lettering, drew it by hand, chalked it onto the fascia, brushed on the glue, rubbed the gold leaf on, burnished it & returned the next morning to touch up the gold and peeled gloss.

I learnt a lot and I loved it. Now armed with a sable 2112 & ready for more…

When I started creating colouring in illustrations (“what if they were interesting AND informative?!”) to explore cool subject matters, I tried to colour them in myself and realised I couldn’t.

My colour combs were UGLY.

I didn’t get colour…

So: I got a colour wheel, and taught myself how.

I turned my process into a downloadable printable game, so you can learn too.

I have been off socials for a bit, Wintering and building a new website and working on a slightly mad project that involved painting an enchanted woodland on a plaster cast baby bump…

This week I got to work with my friend John, learning how he does his thing. He is a busy man and award-winning eco coffin artisan.

It felt very cool to witness him smashing it out the park, and my artwork on his workshop wall ✨
