Wales is quietly emerging as a UK leader in high-value, productivity-boosting investment.

A new ERC report commissioned by Economic Intelligence Wales shows Welsh firms are investing more consistently than the UK average in skills, training, branding and digital capability – with 87% investing in staff training and strong confidence in returns.

This shift toward intangible assets signals a more innovative, skills-driven Welsh economy built for long-term growth.

Schools and public sector buildings across Wales will benefit from a £9 million funding package to cut energy bills and support the move to net zero.

Backed by Great British Energy and delivered with the UK and Welsh Governments, the fund will install solar PV on sites including Coleg Cambria, Porthcawl Comprehensive, and primary schools in Newport, with more to follow.

The remaining funding will support wider renewable projects through the new Ymestyn scheme, helping deliver more ambitious initiatives like solar canopies and battery storage.

Ministers say the investment will lower bills within months and strengthen Wales’ clean energy future.

New data from the NatWest Cymru Growth Tracker shows a mixed picture for the Welsh economy in November.

While business confidence improved, firms continued to face falling output, new orders and employment midway through Q4.

Key findings:
▶️Wales’ Business Activity Index fell to 46.8, signalling a solid drop in output – the sharpest of all 12 UK regions.
▶️New orders declined for the fifth month running, with only the East Midlands and North West seeing steeper falls.
▶️Firms cut selling prices for the first time in 5½ years to stimulate demand, despite rising wage, raw material and transport costs.

The state-of-the-art unit preserves full flavour while reducing beer miles and strengthening local supply chains. AB InBev’s no-alcohol portfolio saw 27% global revenue growth in Q3 2025, reflecting soaring demand.
