In the past 12 months, CULT Cymru, Bectu Cymru, and its Freelance Committee have:
- Rebooted bi-monthly meetings for direct engagement with members and officials.
- Conducted surveys to support Bectu's initiatives, to support the Wellbeing Facilitators programme.
- Completed a recruitment survey and brief for Creative Wales, providing insights into the freelancer experience.
Unfair pay, unequal opportunities, and harassment will persist if we rely on individualism and without unity. Real progress requires workers and unions standing together—including you.
The Bectu Cymru South Wales Freelance Committee is seeking new members. If you're passionate about change, get in touch.

Through collective action, we can build a fairer industry in 2025 and beyond. The power to make a difference starts with you.
We want to highlight the ongoing investigations by SUSST (Speaking Up for Scotland Screen Talent) into hiring practices in Scotland.
A recent insight reveals that for the currently airing hit show The Traitors Series 3, "only 4.17% of above-the-line roles are filled by off-screen talent based in Scotland. Removing the Glasgow-based Executive Producer (BBC), the % of above-the-line roles would be zero. Only 6.42% of below-the-line roles are Scotland-based."
We applaud SUSST's efforts in advocating for local talent and pushing for meaningful change to achieve equity of opportunity.

Meaningful progress in the industry relies on unions and workers standing united.
Persistent issues like unfair rates, unequal opportunities, and workplace harassment will only continue if we remain divided. Through collective action, we can challenge these injustices and build a fairer, more equitable industry in 2025 and beyond.
The Bectu Cymru South Wales Freelance Committee is actively seeking new members to join the cause. If you’re passionate, proactive, and ready to drive change, they’d love to hear from you.

We sincerely thank everyone who took the time to complete our recruitment survey.
The valuable data and shared experiences will shed light on areas needing improvement and empower Bectu to drive meaningful changes in recruitment and fair work practices. In early January 2025, we will present these findings directly to Creative Wales, aiming to work together to better represent freelancers across Wales.
