It’s pretty fun to see where just one word can lead you. It can be a great way to practise putting stories together, whether you wind up writing them in full or not! Here’s where ‘wolf’ took me:

If you say ‘wolf’, I think of packs.
What about a story where a single wolf loses his pack? Good start, but needs more to it.
What if he loses his pack but discovers a new, different pack? Interesting.
What if his new pack is filled with a host of unique and different non-wolf characters? Misfits who have come together? More interesting.
What if he grows to love that new pack, but just as he feels at home, they meet his old pack and he has to choose between the two? Oo, conflict, heartache, tension!

And the first stirrings of a story…

We’re Josh and Ed: a writer/illustrator and a writer, setting off on a quest to create the greatest picture book the world has ever seen. We’ll be sharing our ideas and experiments here along the way!

And yes, one of us is the wolf, and one of us is the pigeon. We just don’t know who’s who yet.
