The Impact of AI on the Event Production Industry: Jobs Lost and Won

Every event we’ve worked on in the last 12 months has in some way mentioned AI (except Munich Beer Festival and Top Clown UK ). The event production industry like many others is gearing up for a shakeup with the arrival of artificial intelligence (AI).

While this technology promises enhanced efficiency and creativity, it also raises questions about the future of jobs in the sector, producing groans and cheers in equal measure.

New Opportunities (come on let’s be positive)

Conversely, the integration of AI will give rise to new job opportunities. As AI technology evolves, there will be a growing need for AI specialists to design, implement, and maintain these systems. Event producers will increasingly require expertise in data analysis to interpret insights generated by AI, leading to roles focused on data-driven decision-making.

Moreover, the enhanced capabilities of AI can foster innovation in event experiences. This could spur demand for roles that blend technology and creativity, such as VR experience designers and interactive content creators. The shift towards personalised attendee experiences may also lead to a surge in jobs focused on audience engagement and experience management.

Jobs at Risk

As AI tools become more sophisticated, certain roles may face extinction or being so devalued they’re no longer attractive to newcomers. For instance, repetitive tasks like ticketing, scheduling, and basic logistical coordination could be automated, potentially reducing the need for administrative positions.

Additionally, AI-driven analytics can optimize marketing strategies, which might lessen the demand for traditional marketing roles within event production teams. The reliance on AI for tasks like video editing and content creation may also threaten positions traditionally filled by creative professionals.

Adobe Premiere for example now transcribes, creates captions and makes poor audio podcast perfect, which has put many 3rd party vendors out of business. Creative types will find themselves competing with algorithms that can generate eye-catching graphics, presentations, websites and copy instantly and on-demand (without the need for coffee, holiday or pay)

Conclusion

While AI may render some positions redundant, it also opens the door to new, specialised roles that require a blend of technical and creative skills. Embracing this change will be crucial for professionals in the industry to adapt and thrive in an AI-enhanced landscape. The future of event production may very well hinge on our ability to harness technology while preserving the human touch that makes events memorable.

Here at Event Streaming .TV we know that AI can not unload the van or haggle with a grumpy loading bay guy (yet). We’re a UK event production company filming and streaming events for over 20 years. If you need help with your next event, hybrid or in-person we’d love to quote, we’re also happy to answer any questions and chat through the options.

Metaverse or the office… What would you really prefer?

The metaverse, a digital universe combining virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) was supposed to transform the future of office work. However, that doesn’t seem to have happened (yet)

Steve Jobs said “You’ve got to start with the customer experience and work backward to the technology. You can’t start with the technology then try to figure out where to sell it.”

So do we really want to stay home and put a headset or does the daily commute, queue for coffee and office interactions still define the working day (after work drinks is another story)

The promise of the metaverse includes global accessibility, cost efficiency, and customized virtual office spaces. The idea is that virtual offices eliminate geographical constraints, enabling seamless collaboration across borders.

The Metaverse claims to reduce physical office expense and allow companies to design digital spaces that reflect their brand and culture. These environments are supposed to offer tools to minimize distractions and foster productivity, with avatar-based interactions promoting inclusiveness and creativity.

Despite these apparent benefits, challenges persist. Many employees find it difficult to adapt to new virtual tools, and prolonged virtual interaction can lead to digital fatigue. Additionally, maintaining a sense of team cohesion and combating loneliness in a fully virtual setup are significant concerns

Companies like Accenture and Unilever are pioneering the use of metaverse technologies for meetings, team-building, and training, with notable success. Accenture, for example, uses VR platforms to enhance engagement and innovation, while Unilever employs gamified platforms to boost learning and skill development.

Summary of Metaverse and VR in Office Work

High Expectations vs. Reality:

Initially, the metaverse was heralded as the future of work, where virtual reality would revolutionize office environments. Expectations included seamless virtual meetings, collaborative virtual workspaces, and increased productivity.

Technical Challenges:

High costs of VR hardware and software. Technical issues such as lag, resolution quality, and user discomfort. Limited integration with existing workplace software and tools.

User Adoption and Comfort:

Many employees find VR equipment cumbersome and uncomfortable for long periods. There is a significant learning curve associated with using VR technology effectively.

Business Readiness:

Not all businesses are ready or willing to invest in the necessary infrastructure. Concerns about security, data privacy, and the overall return on investment.

Social and Practical Considerations:

The physical separation of remote work versus the immersive nature of VR can lead to a disconnect. Employees often prefer traditional video calls and emails over VR meetings due to simplicity and familiarity.

Future Outlook:

Despite current slow growth, there is optimism that improvements in technology and decreasing costs will eventually make VR a viable option for some aspects of office work. Innovations in AR (Augmented Reality) might bridge some gaps between virtual and physical work environments more effectively

In brief, while the metaverse holds substantial potential for redefining office work, its widespread adoption is gradual, constrained by technical, psychological, and organizational challenges. The future of work may very well see a hybrid model where virtual and physical offices coexist, offering flexibility and retaining the benefits of in-person interactions.

Foster meaningful interactions through breakout sessions or virtual workshops. Small group discussions allow participants to actively contribute, share insights, and connect with others who share similar interests.

2. Gamification Elements:

Infuse elements of gamification to add a fun and competitive aspect to your event. Incorporate quizzes, challenges, or virtual networking games to keep participants engaged and motivated throughout the event.

3. Encourage Networking Opportunities:

Create dedicated spaces for virtual networking, where participants can interact with speakers and fellow attendees. Social connections are a crucial aspect of engagement, and facilitating networking opportunities enhances the overall event experience.

How to Film and Stream an Event: A Starters Guide

In today's digital age, hosting remote events has become a common practice for businesses, organizations, and individuals alike. Whether it's a celebration, webinar, conference, or an online workshop, the ability to film and stream a remote event seamlessly is crucial to engaging with your audience.

In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through the process of recording and live streaming a remote event successfully. Additionally, we'll explore the essential equipment required to ensure a professional and captivating online experience.

Here's a step-by-step guide to effectively manage a streamed event:

1. Choose a Reliable Webcasting Company: Before diving into the technicalities, ask questions or partner with a reputable webcasting company like EventStreaming.TV that specializes in remote event services. Their expertise and state-of-the-art technology can significantly enhance the quality of your event's recording and streaming.

2. Quality Webcasting Equipment Matters: To ensure a professional-looking recording, invest in top-notch webcasting equipment. EventStreaming.TV offers a range of high-quality equipment, including cameras, tripods, microphones, and lighting, which are crucial for capturing clear audio and video.

3. Test the Setup: A successful event recording relies on a properly set up streaming environment. Perform extensive tests of the equipment, internet connection, and streaming platform well in advance of the event to iron out any technical glitches.

4. Capture the Entire Event: Start the recording before the event begins to capture any pre-show content or introductions. Ensure that you record the entire event, including presentations, Q&A sessions, and any interactive elements, to have a comprehensive archive.

5. Backup the Recording: Redundancy is vital when it comes to recording crucial events. Use redundant recording setups or consider cloud-based backups to safeguard against any potential data loss.

6. Edit and Enhance the Recording: After the event, edit the recorded content to remove any hiccups, improve the overall flow, and add branding elements if necessary. You can also enhance the audio quality through post-production editing.

By following these steps, you'll have a high-quality recording of your remote event, which can be used for various purposes and provides an excellent fallback in case of any technical issues during the live stream.

The Case study

A client wanted to stream a live service from a small remote church in the North East of England to the many guests in the local village hall as well as online to a greater global audience.

The solution was to provide a real-time video link approximately 2 miles from the church to the hall via our Teradek transmitters, The discreet use of small 4K camera’s allowed us to vision mix the service in the basement of the church to both the hall and the internet.
