If you’ve been thinking about writing down some of your memories for your children or grandchildren, but haven’t quite got around to it yet, The Little Book of Memories is my gift to you.

So many people have ‘writing a memoir’ on their bucket list, but because it seems like such a monumental task most will put it off indefinitely - which is an incredible shame.

The Little Book of Memories is a digital workbook designed to simplify the process of recording key life moments. Once complete, it can be shared directly with loved ones or used as a ‘source book’ to help plan a more in-depth autobiography.

The workbook is available as a Word or Google Docs file and includes:

📖100+ questions covering all aspects of life, from your early childhood years to work, hobbies, relationships, spirituality, health and ancestry.
📖 A timeline section where you can record all your key dates and life events.

As well as the workbook, you’ll receive an email from me each day for the next week, with some helpful tips and encouragement to help you get started with the workbook (and hopefully avoid it languishing unopened in your inbox!)

You’ll also get my weekly newsletter, which is packed full of interesting advice and info about life story writing and family history. You can, of course, unsubscribe from any of the emails at any time.

If you know of someone else who might find it useful, please do tag them in the comments, or send them over to my website www.atticlifestories.com to get their copy.

Storytelling is the golden thread that runs through my career. I started out as a newspaper journalist before becoming a copywriter and communications consultant - but it wasn’t until the pandemic that I began exploring my own family’s stories.

An article on the last great pandemic of 1918–1920 set me off on a journey through time to discover the truth about my paternal grandfather’s mysterious past.

I fell madly, deeply in love with genealogy, making many fascinating discoveries, including the existence of two aunts and a host of cousins.

But I yearned to know more. I was frustrated that there were still so many questions which could never be fully answered. I could never fully know my ancestors, what sort of people they were or how they lived.

This experience made me realise how important it is to record the memories of living relatives before it’s too late. So I put on my 'journalist hat' and interviewed my parents.

I'd assumed I must know almost everything about them but quickly realised how much I either didn't know or could only half-remember.

I also understood fully for the first time our family’s place in history and how their lives were shaped by world events. Some, like the Cold War and the 1970s inflation crisis, seem hauntingly familiar today. There's a degree of comfort in knowing that people before you have endured all this before, and they got through it, so you can too.

I eventually published their stories as a beautiful heirloom book for friends and family. It will be a wonderful legacy for whoever comes after us, opening a window on a long-vanished world and allowing them to hear their ancestor's voices across time.

I launched Attic Life Stories to help other families experience this same magic. I offer courses, workshops, coaching and done-for-you packages which include family history research, interviews, ghostwriting, editing and book production.
