So who’s looking forward to starting their dahlias off in a few weeks time !

I definitely am we’ve chosen a few more different ones to add to the garden this year , can’t wait !

But here’s a couple of things that our growing well at the moment , the ranunculus is growing so well amd so are the wall flowers I can’t wait for spring 🌱💐

Just the start of a few highlights from our 2023 season in the garden ❤️💐🌱

As usual we’ve had plenty of colour all season one of my favourite highlights of the season has to be the delphiniums and dahlias 💐😊

Well that’s it for the 2023 dahlias and what a season it’s been they have been blooming for months 💐❤️

Also I’ve left mine in I’ve risked it as I have had some in for the last few years and they survived all frosts 🥶

I just deeply mulched the border so they are now all set up for the winter ahead

Our dahlia journey ❤️

I first got the tubers delivered in February which was exciting 😊💐

When March came I started the tubers in 3 litre pots which I kept undercover until the last frost , when they started to sprout I started to pinch out the main growing tip 😊

April was now upon us the dahlias where growing so well , then may was upon us , time to plant out 🤩

I sprinkled some organic slug granules around each plant to stop the little critters eating the dahlias when they where young and it worked wonders

I then started to put in the support system I made using willow sticks and wooden poles that I found at the garden centre , each month the plants got bigger and started to get more buds

By august we had loads and loads of dahlias way to many for a vase but we are now in October and we still have loads

If you want to invest in a plant that will give you colour all summer and autumn then a dahlia is for you 😊💐❤️

What have been your best dahlias so far of this season I’ve found 7 dahlias that have made our list , I will also let you know my worst also 👍🏼

First up in 7th place is black jack this has been in bloom all summer it will not let you down

6th place is Molly raven - what a great looking dahlia

5th place red labrynth another beauty that has only just come into its own

4th place is brown sugar I will be ordering another tuber as it’s been phenomenal

3rd place is sweet Nathalie this one has been beautiful for months and is definitely a stayer in our garden

2nd place happy Halloween this one is still full of buds and will definitely stay

1st place is Nicholas wasn’t sure at first but this one is such a stunning dahlia and the blooms last for a long time

Now the bad - This will shock you 😳

In 3rd place - wizard of oz not a great dahlia for us it started well but then didn’t perform to the highest quality

2nd place is cafe au lait royal I really wanted to like this one but I’m now going for more hall dahlias than dinner plates plus this dahlia doesn’t love long in a vase

1st place for tue worst has to be dahlia Mexican star this one has been absolutely yuk and will no longer stay in our garden I had so much hope for this one as it had a chocolaty smell but no it’s getting binned
