Some date back to 2017 when Squire and Partners, the international architects based on Ferndale Road, first helped local primary school pupils to create light-based artworks to decorate the windows of their Department Store headquarters....

The Windrush Square toilets, being offered for rent for the third time in a decade by Lambeth council, were recently opened for viewing and the Blog took the opportunity to visit. Closed since the 1980s, they were in a better state than might have been expected. While there has been some interest from possible commercial users, council officers have also met the Friends of Windrush Square to discuss the future use of the Brixton landmark....

Two of Brixton’s most treasured shops now have a single owner, as Diverse founder Anita Thorpe has taken over Brixton Wholefoods following the retirement of its founder Hilary Waterfield. Wholefoods, whose 45-year status as a much-loved Brixton institution has been confirmed by popular support, was in danger of closing until Anita stepped in. “There’s lots of work to be done to turn the business round,” she says, “but we hope that with the support of the community and our followers, the business will flourish and thrive....

The Brixton-based Make It Stop campaign is today (29 November) named as one of the 49 recipients of a National Trust “Trees of Hope” sapling. The brutal felling of the much-loved Sycamore Gap tree (above) on Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland in September 2023 shocked many people for whom it was a symbol of hope. Some 49 saplings grown from the tree’s seeds are being planted across the UK as Trees of Hope....

The joint Brixton House and Poltergeist production of Alice in Wonderland is a blast. Fans of the original story written in 1865 by Lewis Carroll will recognise the characters and narrative, but writer and director Jack Bradfield has completely reimagined and relocated that world. Instead of disappearing down a rabbit hole, 11 year old Alice jumps on a train in Brixton Underground and suddenly finds herself surrounded by weird and wonderful passengers speeding into nonsense in the grip of a very determined queen....
