Daredevils are set to "fly" as far as possible across a city's harbourside during a new event.
Bristol is hosting its first Birdman competition on Sunday. The contest involves participants creating home-made machines or costumes to help them travel the furthest, before landing in the water.
Birdman events have been staged across the world for 50 years.
Charley Peak-Payne, who is part of team from All-Aboard Watersports, has built a bird for the race. He said: 'We are expecting [it] to break as soon as it hits the water. It's a one-hit wonder - the test run is the final run. It will either work, or it won't'."
Participants must propel themselves off a 4.5-metre-high (14ft) platform into the harbour, with the aid of a flying contraption that must be made from recycled materials.
All the profit raised will go towards the Grassroots Communities programme of work. The charity aims to support young people in local communities by providing them with access to education, employment opportunities and mentoring.
Twelve teams - including businesses and charities to harbour masters and Sea Cadets - have entered.
The contest is running between 10:00 BST to12:00 at Bristol Harbour, between The Cottage Inn and Bristol Marina. Don’t miss this ……

Another brilliant 5* review for our Kitchen Designer, Alec Yull ✨

After a couple of initial conversations about kitchens at Gardiner Haskins, Alec came to my apartment to measure up, understand the space, listen to my thoughts and ideas. It was obvious he properly grasped the look and feel that I wanted to achieve.

It’s a huge amount of money to invest in your home, so it’s important to be confident that every aspect will be perfect. Alec produced renderings of his proposals that showed he clearly understood the brief (and had far better ideas than myself!) He also had options priced up for good/better/best to help tune where the budget should be spent. Alec was also remarkably patient, when – over several conversations – I pretty-much questioned all of his recommendations …and with each one eventually realised his vast experience meant his vision perfectly matched what I needed. “You could do it like that, but what you’ll find is…” and “I’ve put the abc trim down as draft – that’ll tone in best with the xyz that you’ve chosen”

To call Paul a “kitchen fitter” does him a dis-service. He is a craftsman. His ability to make straight lines where cabinets meet wonky walls is astounding. He aligns components across the room with such accuracy, it’s suspicious.

It’s a long process (especially when you’ve chosen a collection of components that can only be templated and then ordered, in sequence). Alec kept in touch every step of the way with lead times and appointments.

Quite by chance a neighbour had a new kitchen designed by Alec and fitted by Paul only a few weeks after mine. Our kitchens are completely different from each other (because Alec understood our different needs, space and taste) yet we can both appreciate each other’s kitchen for its style, the quality of the product and attention to detail in the actual installation.
