The Level 3 Sports Media classes from both Year 1 and Year 2 had their annual Christmas football Game🎄⚽️. This event is there to relax at the end of the year and show a bit of fun, competitive spirit. Staff and students from both classes participated in an enjoyable match that ended 6-4 to the Year 1s, who got to keep the Mazillius Cup until the summer🤩🏆

🎬🌟Lights, Camera, Challenge🌟🎬

Our incredible 1st Year Level 3 Film and TV students took on a creative challenge last week and smashed it🔥

📋The task? Create a short film in just 5 hours!
They were given:
👉🏻A genre
👉🏻One Prop
👉🏻One line of dialogue they had to feature in their story

With limited time, these future filmmakers showcased their talent, teamwork and passion for storytelling. It’s amazing to see how they embraced the challenge and pushed their storytelling skills to the next level!📸🎞️

Our FdA students are back in the studio this week, mastering their roles for their live show as apart of their ‘Going Live’ module!🎥

The show is packed with exciting content🎬. From updates on our athletes who have been out on pro-contracts and getting called up to nationals squads, interviews with alumni in America🇺🇸, a deep dive into the history of our American football academy🏈 and a festive Christmas Crossbar Challenge with our members from our Football Academy⚽️🎄.

We were thrilled to welcome two incredible guest speakers who shared valuable insights with our Games Design and Animation students🎮✍🏻. They provided clear guidance on their areas of expertise and highlighted the crucial role of the networking in the Games industry. Last week, our Level 3 Sports Media students took an exciting trip to Cardiff🎥 They had an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the BBC studios from their Welsh hub and toured the Principality Stadium!🏟️ An amazing opportunity to explore the world of sports media up close!📸

Recently, we have welcomed our new Film & TV Lecturer, Dan, into our BAM team! Dan has a vast knowledge of camera and grip equipment from his previous experience working on film sets and so far is a great asset to the team! Yesterday the second year students were kept busy with a movement workshop where students had the opportunity to practise using Jibs, Electronic Gimbals, Sliders and Stabilizers and Vests! It was a lot of fun! 🤩

We're really proud to announce that one of our Friday Sports Club members has been shortlisted for a Community Radio Award!!! 😮👏 Jon Lock, a volunteer for Bradley Stoke Radio, worked with our Sports Media students to produce the Friday Sports Club, a series of live radio shows created by the students at SGS College! The students will be dusting off their mics and headphones again soon, with the next episodes of the FSC planned for the new year, and we wish Jon all the best for the Volunteer of the Year award at the national ceremony in November. Look forward to seeing you again soon Jon!

Some behind the scenes of last week's SGS Sports Academies live stream! ✨ Our Year 2 Sports Media class spent the sunny afternoon filming SGS Male Rugby (ACE) VS Beechen Cliff. It was a winning result for SGS Male Rugby with the final result of 42-27! 🏈 Congratulations to the team and a big shout out to the student crew for filming the entire match, taking photos, vision mixing, steaming and commentating the game! 👏

Some behind the scenes of Platform photography from last week! 📸 Platform is our yearly collaborative week with Bristol Institute of Performing Arts - BIPA. 🎭🕺 The week consists of the performing arts students creating an end of week showcase performance, while the BAM students help document and cover the media footage during preparation and rehearsals! It is a fun and collaborative week which helps students from both institutes make new friends, practise their chosen disciplines and network for future collaborations! ✨

One of our Year 2 Sports Media students, James Townley, has had the incredibly opportunity of working with Team PB Racing as a Race Reporter and Social Media Team Member! 🤩🏎 James has been busy spending his time interviewing drivers and providing an analysis of the team's performances in race weeks and regularly posting and updating their social media channels! What an amazing opportunity and a solid work experience placement!

Our Story

Bristol Academy of Media is based at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College’s WISE Campus, offering innovative and creative media education at Levels 1-5 for young people across the greater Bristol area.

If you have a love for film, journalism or media, then this is the place for you. BAM students can study in a variety of media disciplines including Film & TV Production, Sports Media, and Animation & VFX, with a focus on producing high-standard media content.

BAM teaching focuses on practical skills, supported by a range of academic areas. Our students are continually honing their practical skills in camerawork, sound, lighting, editing and visual effects, and they work as industry professionals every year, either on professional work placements, or on film commissions for real clients. We aim to give students a taste of life in the industry, with all that demands.

Our media students have access to some impressive facilities, including: WISE TV Studio Professional quality Edit Suite, offering Final Cut Pro & Adobe Creative Cloud Huge array of audio-visual equipment (inc. broadcast-quality cameras, rigs, lights and sound equipment), all bookable by our students 4 high-spec Mac study spaces, comprising of 60 computers BAM has helped many young media enthusiasts go on to make their name professionally. Many of our students progress on to prestigious media universities, and successfully pursue work in their chosen profession.
