Oriri Creative and Movement Focused Day Retreat at Arts Mansion.

Emerge into the day with a morning stretch and a somatic movement workshop followed by moments of reflection with journaling and meditation.

Enjoy a delicious lunch followed by an energising African drumming session and a creative mindfulness workshop to explore creative expression and play. Settle into your body in the afternoon with a restorative yoga class and enjoy a moment of stillness as you’re soothed in a sound bath snuggled up with blankets and cushions.

The day will draw to an end with a closing circle surrounded by candlelight for final journal reflections. There are 850 acres of rolling hills and woodlands overlooking the sparkling cityscape if you wish to enjoy a stroll or savour a cup of tea outside at any time during the day.

All activities are optional and you are welcome to dip in and out of them as you wish. Whether you need community or solitude you can find both at Oriri.

Saturday 15th March, 11 - 4pm.

Standard Ticket: £99, booking link: https://oririretreats.co.uk/etn/creative-wellness-and-movement-day-retreat-bristol/

Ashton Court is one of medievelist Charlotte Bowyer's (AKA Lady of the Mercians) excellent choices for her Bristol24/7 Bristol Favourites.
Part of our role for the Mansion is to keep it open so that it doesn't have to be shuttered up, fall into further disrepair and become a target for vandalism. We'd love to see it restored and put to good use for the community.

Artist has developed Hush City to create alternative, non-verbal ways of socialising: it is both a challenge & a refuge, solitary & social. Neuro-divergent adults and people on the healing path may find the space particularly beneficial.

🪄 "Hush City" is launching on the 8th of January (Wednesday) at Ashton Court, in the panelled lounges of the iconic Arts Mansion, 9am til 9pm.

✨️ You are invited to move in for a whole day, focus & relax, work on your project and make connections that don’t require small talk.

🙈🙉🙊 During "Hush periods" (45 minutes every hour) we keep the quiet and disconnect from the web. (Devices on airplane mode & headphones are allowed.) You will soon find that despite these restrictions, "Hush City" allows a greater sense of freedom to express your authentic self as you move through the day, whether you want to stretch, read, knit, zone-out, draw, compose, breath or even have a nap, than other social spaces such as coffee shops, pubs and libraries we are all familiar with.

Cost: £5 for 2 hours, £10 for 5 hours, £16 for 12 hours.

Artspace Lifespace artist-in-residence, invites Bristolians to become Hush Citizens as the New Year sets in.

Hush Citizens can come to meditate, read, or work on projects—free from online distractions. They can relax on their own or make connections that don’t require small talk.

Held in Ashton Court Mansion’s two-panelled lounges, the retreat runs from 9am to 9pm, offering an eclectic setup of cosy furniture, serene surroundings and a break from the distractions of the internet. There are only two rules to follow:

• Observe 45-minute periods of 'no-talking-in-the-space', followed by 15-minute breaks with beats, drinks and welcoming new arrivals into the space.

• Keep all devices on airplane mode to maintain focus and presence.

"What do you do when you do you?" - Dori Jo, Artist-in-residence at Artspace Lifespace, asks Bristolians.

A trained mime artist and Zen Buddhist practitioner, Dori Jo has developed this event to create alternative, non-verbal ways of socialising. Drawing on her global experience - from leading silent bike rides in Bristol to her time in a Japanese monastery - she believes silence can foster deeper connections and spark creativity.

The event may particularly be beneficial for neuro-divergent folks: people with ADHD, HSPs (highly sensitive people) and people more on the introverted end of spectrum but it's inclusive of all humans 16+.

Wednesdays 8th, 15th and 22nd January, 9am - 9pm.

Cost; £5 up to 2hrs, £10 up to 5hrs, £16 up to 12hrs

Hush City is a silent indoor gathering designed to enhance your focus and provide an ideal environment for relaxation and reflection as the New Year sets in.

If you find yourself frazzled by urban noise pollution, you will naturally find "Hush City" a pleasurable and restorative environment to spend time in. If quiet makes you feel awkward in social situations, "Hush City" is an excellent opportunity for you to dissolve that "sticky" self-consciousness.

There are two rules that ticket holders must observe during their stay in "Hush City": 1/ for 45 minutes every hour we keep the quiet - beats & drinks/arriving in the 15-minute breaks -, and 2/ devices are only allowed on airplane mode.

Please note that because of the noise restriction "Hush City" is not a Family Event and it operates under a 16+ age restriction.

January 8th, 9am til 9pm.
Cost: £5 for 2 hours, £10 for 5 hours, £16 for 12 hours.

This week we visited the Tteach plaque in Bristol Cathedral.
Beautifully hand-carved by the plaque is dedicated to John Isaac and the at least 4,424 enslaved African and Caribbean people from whom Bristolian Alderman Daniel and his family profited. The Daniel family received one of the largest slavery compensation awards granted by the British Government.

The work is the result of 4.5 years of research and heartfelt campaigning by artist Gloria Daniels. Following her recent residency at Arts Mansion Gloria is planning to raise a plaque at Ashton Court which was previously owned by a relative of Alderman Daniel.

Arts Mansion

While options are being considered for the future of Ashton Court Mansion, Artspace Lifespace (ASLS) has stepped in to take on the running of the mansion house from May 2018. Our vision is for Ashton Court to be an inclusive multi-use arts venue for Bristol and North Somerset facilitating art, theatre, performance and community activities.

How long will Artspace Lifespace be running Arts Mansion for?

Our lease is for five years but working with Bristol City Council and Bristol Civic Society we hope that by May 2020 the plan for long term future of Ashton Court Future will be determined.

What are your opening hours? Our office hours are 11am-4pm Wednesday-Sunday. The mansion can be hired during our outside of those hours by prior arrangement. Our programme of public 0pening concluded on September 28th with a Heritage Family Day.
