Bethany Stenning - Violin & Viola Teacher

If you're looking to learn violin or viola, then come to Firebird Studios and study with Bethany. She is a classically trained violinist and violist (grade 8 ABRSM) who has since explored many styles of violin, from folk to jazz.

As a wider musician, Bethany also composes and plays piano, guitar, harp and sings. She enjoys to explore the instruments in new and interesting ways, as well as exploring classical technique.

Daytime Drum Practice

Daytime Drum Practice

If you want to get some drum practice in, but don't have a kit, or can't setup your own kit in your house, then come to Firebird Studios and use ours! We have all kinds of drum sets from 18" bop kits to 22" rock monsters! They are all well maintained and are regularly reskinned to ensure that you get a great sounding kit every time. You'll also get a snare drum and cymbals as part of the hire as well.

You also have access to a laptop stand, mini mixer and in room pa to playback the tracks you're working on. We have a free on site car park with plenty of space and brew some of the best coffee you're going to get in a rehearsal studio courtesy of Bristol Twenty Coffee Company.

We charge just £9.50 per hour for all of this, plus you get to use a kit that actually gets maintained and isn't broken or missing vital parts on it. We can also hire you just the shells and you bring your cymbals and snare for £8.50 per hour!

You can book your practice session from 10am - 7pm Monday - Thursday and 10am - 6pm Friday.

PAT Testing

We now offer PAT testing at Firebird Studios. It costs £1 per item and can include amplifiers, power leads, active PA speakers, power amps, keyboards, laptops, tablets, basically any electronic item you use as part of your performance.

What is PAT testing?

The Portable Appliance Test is a test to check that your electrical equipment is electrically safe and not likely to cause harm to you or anyone around you. This comprises of a visual inspection and electrical test – typically using a PAT testing machine.

Why should I PAT test my equipment?

Mainly because it’s good to know that your equipment is safe and shouldn’t cause any issues at your gig. If something goes wrong at the venue and the electrics pop for some reason, it’s a great way to prove that your equipment was unlikely to be the cause of it.

Also, your insurance policies typically ask for it as part of the requirements of getting the insurance in the first place. If you don’t have a valid PAT test, then they have the perfect reason to refuse your insurance claim and no one wants those weasly tinkers to get out of doing what’s right by you.

Are your rooms on the ground floor?

Yes they are is the simple answer.

Our 6 rehearsal rooms are on the ground floor next to our car park, which is big enough to fit most of the bands that come to rehearse with us. We also have a big roller shutter entrance so you won't have any issues getting your equipment through the doors either. We even have a selection of trolleys for you to use to get your gear into the studio.

No more hu***ng gear up and down stairs or dealing with annoying corridors that go on forever. Just park, unload, walk into room, setup, play.

It's new drum heads time for one of our kits! We try to re-skin our toms at least twice a year, so you don't have to play on things that sound like wet paper.

I also gave the rims a polish up with some 0000 wire wool so get some of the blemishes out and they've come up a treat!

G2 skins are our preferred skins. Pretty effortless to tune, last for a good long while and sound great from the first hit!

Chris Langton - Drum Teacher

Are you looking to learn drums in Bristol? We have some of the best teachers and performers at our studios ready to show you how to play that beat and become the drummer you always wanted to be.

Chris Langton is a professional drummer and teacher with over ten years of professional experience, currently working with Bristol band Snazzback who are signed to the Worm Discs record label. With an upbringing in rock and funk, his style of drumming has developed to encompass Latin, jazz, hip-hop and an experimental free attitude towards music which concepts he brings to the lessons he teaches.

Performing on stages such as Ronnie Scotts (Soho), Strange Brew (Bristol), Band On The Wall (Manchester) aswell as festival stages at Glastonbury (Truth Stage) Shambala (Main stage) amongst others, Chris’ professional experience lends a lot to his lessons and concepts that he teaches.

Do you have a car park?

They joy of rehearsing at Firebird Studios is that you don't have to gain access through a special gate* or wander around for ages on the streets looking for somewhere to park. We have a fairly large car park on site which can usually accomodate all of our bands rehearsing at any one time. If you get here late, then you may have a bit of difficulty parking right outside the door, but there's plenty of space all around our building and also on the street if we're really jammed up.

You do need to be sensible with where you park when you get here and maybe look around you to make sure that you're not blocking people in, or parking in a way that can stop other people parknig around you. Other than that it's usually plain sailing when you get here.

If you're rehearsing in the evening, then we typically have the entire site to ourselves. For people rehearsing in the daytime, there are other businesses on site that require access and so we ask you to be more mindful during standard working hours.

*If you are presented with a closed gate when you get here. Double check that you have come through the main entrance on Emery Road, not the side entrance on Bonville Road. If you still see a blue gate, then give us a call and we'll see what's going on.

When are you open?

Monday to Thursday we're open from 10am - 11pm, Friday we're open 10am to 6pm, Saturdays can be from 9am - 4pm, but it changes during the school year and Sundays we're open from 12pm to 10pm.

That's the simplified version. In reality it can be a little tricker than that. If we have bands booked in during the daytime, then the studio will be open. If we don't then we won't be. Monday to Thursday evenings we are almost always open, as that's our peak time for bands to rehearse.
