Do you have a car park?

They joy of rehearsing at Firebird Studios is that you don't have to gain access through a special gate* or wander around for ages on the streets looking for somewhere to park. We have a fairly large car park on site which can usually accomodate all of our bands rehearsing at any one time. If you get here late, then you may have a bit of difficulty parking right outside the door, but there's plenty of space all around our building and also on the street if we're really jammed up.

You do need to be sensible with where you park when you get here and maybe look around you to make sure that you're not blocking people in, or parking in a way that can stop other people parknig around you. Other than that it's usually plain sailing when you get here.

If you're rehearsing in the evening, then we typically have the entire site to ourselves. For people rehearsing in the daytime, there are other businesses on site that require access and so we ask you to be more mindful during standard working hours.

*If you are presented with a closed gate when you get here. Double check that you have come through the main entrance on Emery Road, not the side entrance on Bonville Road. If you still see a blue gate, then give us a call and we'll see what's going on.

When are you open?

Monday to Thursday we're open from 10am - 11pm, Friday we're open 10am to 6pm, Saturdays can be from 9am - 4pm, but it changes during the school year and Sundays we're open from 12pm to 10pm.

That's the simplified version. In reality it can be a little tricker than that. If we have bands booked in during the daytime, then the studio will be open. If we don't then we won't be. Monday to Thursday evenings we are almost always open, as that's our peak time for bands to rehearse.

Are your rooms on the ground floor?

Yes they are is the simple answer.

Our 6 rehearsal rooms are on the ground floor next to our car park, which is big enough to fit most of the bands that come to rehearse with us. We also have a big roller shutter entrance so you won't have any issues getting your equipment through the doors either. We even have a selection of trolleys for you to use to get your gear into the studio.

No more hu***ng gear up and down stairs or dealing with annoying corridors that go on forever. Just park, unload, walk into room, setup, play.

PAT Testing

We now offer PAT testing at Firebird Studios. It costs £1 per item and can include amplifiers, power leads, active PA speakers, power amps, keyboards, laptops, tablets, basically any electronic item you use as part of your performance.

What is PAT testing?

The Portable Appliance Test is a test to check that your electrical equipment is electrically safe and not likely to cause harm to you or anyone around you. This comprises of a visual inspection and electrical test – typically using a PAT testing machine.

Why should I PAT test my equipment?

Mainly because it’s good to know that your equipment is safe and shouldn’t cause any issues at your gig. If something goes wrong at the venue and the electrics pop for some reason, it’s a great way to prove that your equipment was unlikely to be the cause of it.

Also, your insurance policies typically ask for it as part of the requirements of getting the insurance in the first place. If you don’t have a valid PAT test, then they have the perfect reason to refuse your insurance claim and no one wants those weasly tinkers to get out of doing what’s right by you.

Do your rooms come with equipment?

Our rooms come with a pa and microphones as standard, but if you need guitar amps or drum kits, then there's an extra charge for them. So why do we charge for our equipment hire?

The reason that we charge for the equipment is two fold. Firstly, we're on the ground floor with great load in access and so people generally enjoy being able to bring their own equipment and use it at an angry volume. This becomes tricky if you've got a room full of equipment already in place.

Secondly, we don't want to charge you for something that you don't use. If you book a room and the equipment is already in there, then you're paying for the equipment within your room hire fee. We think people should only pay for what they use, so each item is hired separately. The hire fee is minimal (£1 - 2.50 per item per hour) and that hire fee goes towards the maintenance of the equipment.

We service our amps regularly and change the drum kit heads at least once - if not twice - a year depending on usage. This can all quickly add up cost-wise, but we want to keep this going so that you guys get good quality equipment to use if and when you need to use it. We've all been to those rehearsal rooms that have free equipment in them and it's almost always completely trashed and pretty unuseable.

We want you to have the best experience you can at our studios, so you can get on with what you're there to do; make amazing music.

Holy hell, we've been running Firebird Studios for 10 years! I don't know how this happened, but I do know that all of you have a very big part to play in it all.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, we wouldn't be here without your support and it means the world to us that you continue to use us for all your rehearsals, recordings, dances, studies and more. When I've had a moment to process this all, I'll be writing a bit more eloquently about it all.

Another successful PAT Test completed. Mostly passes with a smattering of failures. Better to find out now then on a gig though.

If you need your musical equipment PAT tested, then we're more than happy to do that for you. It's a basic insurance requirement and something that can protect you from facing a hefty bill if something goes wrong at a gig.

Get in touch using the contact information and we'll see you soon.

We hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas break with your families. We thought we'd spend this relaxing time doing a complete studio rewire and rebuild room 2 so that it doesn't share its ceiling joists with room 3.

Hopefully this will mean less flanking channels and less sounds from one room appearing in the amps of another. We're also putting in new lighting as well so all rooms will have dimmable spot lights going forward.

Just another thing we're doing to try and make your studio experience that much better.

Happy Christmas!

Sometimes you wonder if it's all worth it. The long hours, the endless setting up and putting down and fetching and carrying. Then you get a card from one of your bands and you know it is. Merry Christmas everyone and we hope you have a fun holiday with your loved ones.
