I love to learn, but it can be easy to let it go as a lower priority compared to everything else in life and business.
So having a CPD deadline and level that needs to be met each year gives it a good framework to work towards that is very satisfying when hit!

The scariest thing you can do this Halloween is ghost your audience! 👻

No, seriously... when was the last time you posted on social media? 👀
Now's the time to go all in on social, which means posting frequently and consistently!

You don't HAVE to be posting every day, but if you last updated your accounts less than five days ago, then you need to step it up!

There are less than EIGHT WEEKS until Christmas, and the next few weeks are the PEAK time for sales. I know I've already started Christmas shopping and am far from alone. 😉

BUT before you can cut straight to the sale, you need to be showing up and offering VALUE to their audience. Or they won't stick around when you ask to buy.

Here are some ideas for you to try this week:

🟣 Essential updates in your industry/niche

🟣 Answer FAQs and open up for more questions from your audience.

🟣 Go back to your strategy and hit the pain points of your audience.

Feeling in and out of focus? You're not alone. 💜

I've struggled with my mental health all my life.
My twenties were a struggle, and it's taken a long time to get to a healthy place.

While I'm no longer where I was, it's still something that I think about every day.
And it's a huge part of how I run my business and my future plans!

The main thing I’ve learned over the years is that mental health and physical health are one and the same.

Without one, you cannot have the other.
Even if it's easier said than done sometimes!

Just taking some time away from a screen can be so valuable – especially for someone whose whole life seems to be centred around them. 🙈

And getting out into the real world can really help put things into perspective – and bring my priorities back into focus.

This , I encourage you to put yourself first and prioritise your own needs ahead of others - or even your own business! - wherever you can.

Are you 'waiting' to post when everything's organised and 'perfect'?

When has anything in life ever been exactly aligned?

If you wait until you feel fully ready, you won't ever get post on social media.

Think of all the potential customers you're missing out on who you could be helping!

I can relate to feeling awkward about posting on social media. Putting yourself out there can feel daunting and overwhelming.

But you don't have to jump into dancing reels right away – or do you ever have to post that kind of content.

The best kind of content you can post right now is what's authentic to YOU.

So try not to overthink it (easier said than done I know) and just put something out there. It doesn't have to be perfect –just honest to you and your business.

Here's a challenge for those of you who hate posting videos...

Instead of only posting static photos and graphics on your grid this week, what if you finally gave video content a try?

It's easy to stick to what's comfortable and familiar, but sometimes, it's good to step out of your comfort zone!

Video content isn't going anywhere, and it's a great way to engage your audience and increase your reach.

I get it – I hate being in front of the camera.
This is why I want to ask you to try to stop overthinking it (if that's possible)!

I used to think I needed a full studio set-up and script for a 30-second reel.
But not only do you not need a super professional set-up – you can post really short clips.

Take a look at my last post - it is literally 2 seconds long!
But it did its job - got people to stop the scroll, read my caption and take action.

🤔 Are you just posting and ghosting on social media? 😬

I get it – you're busy! It's so tempting to post your content and move on to the next task on our never-ending to-do list.

But if you're only ever posting and then disappearing – what I like to call "posting and ghosting" – you might be missing out on a major opportunity...

Social media is, at its core, meant to be SOCIAL.

When you actively engage with your audience by liking, commenting, and sharing, you boost your own posts' reach and engagement.

And, even more importantly, you’re fostering relationships, building a community, and enhancing your brand’s visibility.

💡 Try setting aside just 5 minutes a day to start with for some dedicated engagement time after each post to interact with your audience.
It’s not just about being present when you post; it’s about being present when your audience engages.

I've been walking my own path now for over four years! Yesterday marked my 4th anniversary since I went freelance. 🥳🎈

It was 2020 - the year of change for most of us, I'm sure - and I was stuck in my flat alone on furlough. It had been six painful months of soul searching when I got an email asking me if I could help on a 'freelance' basis.

I'd not thought about working in that way before - and I'm so grateful for being shown this new path.

Since then, there have been highs and lows, as anyone who chooses the self-employed life will know.

There have been times when I questioned if I had the courage to continue. The lack of certainty and stability can be tough to handle at times.

But I had the freelance bug, and nothing was going to stop me.

There will be no one in the world who cares as much about the life you live, the work you create, and the dreams you chase as YOU.

So you might as well go live the life you dream of, create things you love, work on things you are passionate about, and push past what others might think is even possible.

Today, I'm taking a moment to reflect on this journey of becoming a freelance marketer and how incredibly thankful I am to spend my days working with incredible business owners, crafting incredible content and making the world a better place one campaign at a time.

And to find the courage to pursue my dreams and make them a reality.

And maybe, just maybe, inspiring another person in this beautiful world to pursue their dreams, too.

Now, after four hard years since I got that email, I'm in the best place I've ever been.

I truly believe I have the best job in the world and couldn't imagine doing anything else. 💜

It takes skill to do social media well.
It’s not just uploading content to Facebook or wherever - there is SO much more to it than that if you want it to do well!

Running a social media channel is a full-time job in itself.

It is a skilled job, and experts spend years training and perfecting their craft.

There’s a reason successful businesses invest a HUGE amount of time, energy and money into their online presence.

So, if you want your business to be successful, too, then you need to do more than post on social media (when you remember).
You need a strategy with a plan that is thoughtfully executed.

✨ Getting it right is more important than hurrying to a place that doesn't work for you. ✨

Today marks eight years since my graduation. And what an eight years it's been.

If I could tell the girl standing there in a cap and gown where I'd be today, I don't think she'd believe me.

Not just because I have achieved so many things, I'm proud of since then but also because this path I'm on wasn't even on my radar.

I left my undergraduate degree feeling a little lost - as I'm sure the majority of graduates do! To solve this, I dove right into an MA in Law course.
A fresh start on a new course in a new city, changing direction entirely?! It's a decision I look back on with mixed feelings. I don't remember taking enough time to evaluate that path fully at the time. Or at least I quashed any uneasy feelings I had as anxiety at something new. I was desperate to find my place and believed that starting again was the right move.

Today, I am a huge advocate of starting again for the right reasons. It really is never too late!

But if I were to go back in time, knowing what I know now, I probably wouldn't have done this. I wouldn't call it a mistake, as I learnt so much and met so many incredible people, and I literally wouldn't be the same person I am today without that experience.

But sometimes, starting fresh just because you're scared to go further down the path you're already on isn't the right decision.

Still, I am so glad I eventually found my way again. It's taken some time, but I'm much closer to where I want to be now. There's no race when it comes to your career.

✨ Getting it right is more important than hurrying to a place that doesn't work for you. ✨

It's only now, after eight years, that things finally feel like they're coming together. 💜

Have you heard of The Ice Cream Cone Method? It's made creating social media content 10x easier. 👇

Now that it's well and truly summer - and it happens to be on Sunday 😉 - it's a great time to talk about
🍦 The Ice Cream Cone Method! 🍦

Use the ICC Method to create your next social media post, and you'll be banging out those captions like 1, 2, 3! 👏

Here's the method in a nutshell:
Ice Cream:
The ice cream is just like your content's main event - it's the key message. Each post should be posted for a reason - just like an ice cream cone wouldn't exist without ice cream! What is the one thing you're trying to get across?

Cone:
The cone, i.e. the way the ice cream is delivered! For your content, that's the medium you're posting in. Think video, blog, or infographic... what's the best way to deliver your message?

Sprinkles:
The sprinkles on top are the little magic that makes the ice cream irresistible!
Each post should have a sprinkle or two - i.e. a hook that makes it stand out amongst all the other ice creams/ pieces of content.

Chocolate:
What has to be my favourite bit - right at the end of an ice cream cone, you usually find a chunk of chocolate that leaves you wanting more!
That means your posts should have a call to action – leading readers to the next treat or post! What will that nugget be for your post?

Today was day 2 of the Catalyse Change summit, and I'm coming away incredibly inspired and motivated. 💜

I decided to join the programme - which is designed to empower young women into green careers - as I've been feeling a little stuck lately. I know I really want to make a difference and have a bigger impact in the fight against climate change, but I really didn't know where to begin.

I've loved meeting and connecting with women (and non-binary) change-makers from around the world. Most of us appear to be in the same boat—earnestly wanting to make a difference in the eco sector and looking for our direction and purpose in doing so.

We've heard from so many incredible people over the two days, but some of the speakers I most connected with were Manuella Cantalice, Rhian Sherrington, Amelia Crews, Daze Aghaji, Hannah Temple, Olivia Sweeney and Joey Clifton.

I now have 15 pages of notes to review, full of tools, resources, and reflections, but one area that really resonated with me is the Inner Development Goals, which I already know is about to be my next obsession!

I've always had a huge personal passion for sustainability and the environment, and I am now, more than ever, determined to make it my career passion, too.

There's lots to think about as we now move onto the next part of the programme, where I shall meet my mentor to begin diving deeper into the right direction for me to explore.

A simple way to attract your target audience through content? 🙋‍♀️ Yes, please!
Just remember the word FACE.👇

Tomorrow is , so it's the perfect time to review how well you know your audience and whether your content actually attracts them.

Pencil in some time this month to go back to basics and look at your customer persona. If you don't have one, now's the time!
It may seem time-consuming, but it can efficiently highlight gaps in your marketing and where you should spend more time, energy, and money going forward.

Here's an effective method to effectively create content that speaks to your target audience:

F – Look at your Feedback
Any customer feedback about your business can help determine what's working and what's not. Do you get a lot of questions about one product or service? This could be a good piece (or many pieces!) of content that helpfully answers them for everyone.

A – Assess your Analytics
Look at the data to see what your audience is doing on your website, what they're clicking on on social media, and what their demographics are.

C – Conduct a competitor analysis
Zoom out from your business and look around at the wider industry. How are your competitors targeting their customers? Is there a way you haven't tried before that you could adapt to suit you?

E – Engage with them across your platforms
The best way to attract your ideal audience is by going to them and actively talking to them! This should ideally be done daily and can work outside of your own channels, e.g. in third-party Facebook groups or comments of other content where appropriate.

It's that time of year when you might be considering 'scaling back' over the summer... 🫣

BUT 55% of holidaymakers spend 30-120 minutes a day on social media*.

On average, we pick our phones up every 10 minutes**, so that isn't surprising! These habits are hard to change even when on holiday!

Nowadays, everywhere has WiFi, so we can all feed our social media addiction from anywhere — even above 10,000 feet in the sky.

And if you scale back your content, your audience doesn't see your business.

Instead of seeing your content, they're scrolling past generic holiday snaps and seeing content from your competition.
And if they're in the mood to buy or engage, you're missing out on those golden opportunities.

You still have time to plan your content for the summer, so you don't have to post from your sunbed! With the right strategy, you can maintain your social media presence without sacrificing your holiday time.

Add an extra hour a week until August to get ahead of things. Or consider outsourcing to give yourself time away from the screen this summer. This quote reminds me of the one about 1% changes.

Small, incremental changes add up to large progress.

And each 1% shift? It’s a choice.

The choice to get out of bed or go to the gym.

The choice to write one more post or watch Netflix.

The choice to speak kindly to yourself or beat yourself up over something.

Each of those choices is neutral— they aren’t good or bad.

I want to talk for a second about something that I'm really passionate about.

And that's ethical marketing.

But Sarah, you're the 'ethical marketer', don't you talk about this all the time?
Well, I've been a bit lax about this recently, so I want to bring it back into the foreground.

I named my business 'your ethical marketer' because I want ethics and my values to be at the heart of everything I do.

Marketing ethically can sometimes feel like a contradiction.
There's so much information out there and advice from big names that promote marketing tactics that are a bit icky.

Do you know the feeling you get when you land on a website, and it just feels way too pushy?
The FOMO countdowns, the emotionally manipulative writing, the businesses that clearly put profit over customer... it makes for an awful experience!

So, I vow never to be part of that. I stand for honesty, transparency, and sustainability. I put people and the planet over profit (while recognising that all businesses still need to make money to exist!).

There are so many ways to market successfully without going the icky route. I want to make sure you know about them and feel confident approaching your marketing in a lovely, ethical way rather than a panicky, intense one.

You want to feel good about your business, and customers want to feel good about buying from you, too. It's a win-win!

"Every action you take is a vote for the person you wish to become." – James Clear

Change doesn't happen from thinking about it, or even talking about it... change only happens when we put it into action.

Because saying you want to be something is a lot different than putting in the effort – day after day – to be this version of yourself.

For example, I used to tell people all the time that I wanted to get healthier and lose some weight.
I thought about this goal all the time and it consumed me.

“If only I could be slimmer!” 😔

Like I said, I did a lot of thinking and talking about it … but what I was missing was the *effort* I needed to put in to make this goal a reality.
And, as you can guess, I found that I wasn’t getting any closer to shifting the pounds!

That is, until I started putting my actions where my words were. I started counting calories, intermittent fasting, and building healthy habits. And less than a year later, I'm 65 pounds down. 🙌

Think about the person you want to become.

Every decision you make – everything you do – is a *vote* toward your future self.

Seems like a crazy amount of pressure, but I really like this idea because it forces us to put some thought into the things we’re doing and why we’re doing them.
And to make sure we’re always putting our ‘votes’ toward the best version of ourselves.

Who do you hope to become?
This doesn't need to be business-related, it can be a personal shift too.
