Here's a truth that can be hard to face: Marketing is a long game.

There's no overnight fix. You have to put in the work overtime to see results.

Doing marketing right means sustainable growth over the long term.

And that's not a viral video that lasts as long as footprints in the sand – washed away just as quickly as it happened – leaving you to start from scratch again.

That is not a strategy. That is a waste of time and resources.

You need to be open to experimenting and learn from your mistakes to succeed.

It's a process, and like anything worth doing right, there's no easy answer; you gotta try, try, and try again.

And if you've had no marketing training, you can't expect to be an expert.

Marketing is a skill, and there's a reason it's a full-time job (or the job of a whole team for most businesses!).

If you find yourself constantly questioning what to share on social platforms and overwhelmed by which marketing activities you should prioritise right now... you're not alone!
The majority of my clients came to me feeling that way.

Please don't feel like you're not working hard enough or 'rubbish' at marketing.
You're just not the expert.

Today, I'm asking you to be kinder to yourself and give yourself a break. 💜

This ain't easy and not something that comes 'naturally'!
You started your business to focus on the thing you love, to make money, to make a difference... whatever your reason – I'm sure it wasn't to spend it on social media all day!

So don't beat yourself up.

Instead, think carefully about the advice you listen to and any 'investments' you make in your marketing.

That 2-hour course may have a compelling sales page, but will it actually help you long-term?

Or is it a distraction from what you are the expert in... growing your business?

In reality, what moves the needle is an expert casting their eyes over your business and giving you actionable steps to improve *your* marketing – not anyone else's.

If you're ready to move that needle for your business, I'd love to help.

I offer affordable expert marketing advice that will make a difference to your business.

Get in touch today for a free chat on how I can help you move that needle and get your marketing sorted for 2025.

Sonya from a family-run campervan company came to me last March for marketing support.
She had been running the marketing for her family's company and knew she couldn't keep on top of it on her own any longer.

She had tried working with other freelancers in the past, but it hadn't quite worked for them.

She needed someone reliable and consistent who could adapt to her needs week in and week out.

I stepped in and put in place a workflow that could work for us both.

Each week, I produce for her:
📩 An email newsletter
🖥️ A blog post
🎬 A YouTube video edited

(Plus, a monthly email for a different segment of subscribers).

And when anything else comes up – she knows where to turn.

Here's what Sonya has to say about working with me...

"Sarah is amazing and is so vital to the smooth running of our Youtube channel and also to our content creation for our newsletter and blog.
She is so kind and patient, and she listens to everything we ask for.
We value that she understands our brand and always sets the right tone for our content as well as including all of the details that we give her. She is extremely diligent, thorough and dedicated to her job and we would highly recommend her services to anyone wanting to uplevel their marketing."

When I need to clear my mind, I try and head outside into the fresh air and be in nature for a while. 🌳

There's something about being among trees that helps me find my balance again.

Just taking some time away from a screen can be so valuable – especially for someone whose whole life centres around them. 🙈

My mental health has been up and down over the years. This , I want to share a little about protecting my mental health on social media.

It can be difficult to step back and remember the bigger picture. That's why it's great to shut the laptop and walk away when you can.

But that's not always realistic.

Whether you need to be on social media for your business or enjoy scrolling as part of your downtime, here are a few things I've found that help me not to take this bonkers internet world quite so personally. 👇

💜 Remember that nothing is real.
Everything you see on social media is intentional and posted for a reason.
Even your mum posting a snap of her garden isn't actually real.
She would have thought about the angle of the photo and what she wanted people to know.
She may have strategically stood in front of the weeds she's embarrassed about. 🤣

💜 Remember that it's designed to manipulate.
People are posting to capture your attention.
And they do this through manipulating your emotions.
So the next time you feel angry or sad or a post makes you laugh, remember that's precisely what they wanted you to do.

💜 Remember that it is all about the money.
These platforms exist to make money.
Whether for businesses to drive leads or in the ads, they're not actually 'free'.
You are giving them your eyeballs, and that is a valuable thing.
So be mindful of this when you click on your platform of choice.

Instead, remember why YOU are on it.
What do you want to get out of social media?

Did you see that? It was a shiny object hopping by to distract you from all your progress. 😬

I'm here to remind you not to go chasing after it!

Because here’s the thing… new projects, ideas, and those “new year, new me” posts are all over your feed at the moment.

And it's going to be mighty tempting to think YES, THAT IS THE ANSWER!

But, friends... it's NOT the answer. I promise. ☺️

Shiny object syndrome is REAL, and it’s a silent killer of goals.

Especially ones that you’ve been working on for a while and are tempted to quit because something else looks easier.

I promise you, the rewards are coming. Nothing great comes easy. It takes patience to see the greatest rewards.

So, stick to what you’ve started.
Remember those resolutions you set in previous years and the goals you’ve been working on in 2024.

Good things will come. Keep going. 💜

What's one goal you're COMMITTING to seeing through as we approach the end of the year?
Let me know, so we can keep each other accountable!

Are you an introvert? 🙋‍♀️

Apparently, about 25-40% of people are introverts, so we're in the minority.
But we're not as shy or quiet as the stereotype may portray us as!

As an introvert, we may just approach business a little differently.
This can be good and bad, but it's definitely a different perspective.

The biggest challenge I face as an introvert in business is managing my social energy.
I know my energy reserves are limited, so I'm mindful about how I spend them.

I can't always be out there networking and mingling, and that's totally okay!
I also carefully manage when I'll take video calls, as I find them particularly draining.

Let me know – are you more of an extrovert or an introvert?

Do you ever feel like being an introvert in business is a disadvantage?

🫣 The 6 things I wish I'd known before going freelance...

Pictured is me in September 2019, soon after starting my first full-time marketing role at a magazine publishers.

While I loved the team and learnt so much during this time I soon realised that something was missing.
So when we went into lockdown 6 months later, and I was put on furlough, I was able to do some soul-searching.

That's when freelancing came about – I got an email asking if I would be interested in some 'freelance' work. I hadn't really heard of the term, and after a rabbit warren of research, I knew I had found it! 🙌 The way of working that really works for me – having more control over your time and the work you do.

It's been a bumpy ride since 2020. I joined another full-time role in the August, and freelancing was more of a side hustle.

But in January 2021, I finally took the plunge – and went full-time freelancing!

I can't believe it's been 4 years now since then. 😮

There have been a lot of lessons learned. And a lot I wouldn't have done if I knew what I do now.

But here are the six things I would tell myself four years ago when it all started if I could...

⏰ Time management is SO important. Not only for keeping myself organised and meeting deadlines but for my own work/life balance...

💜 And that work/life balance is the most important thing. It is so easy to slip into overworking when there are no clear timeframes or set office hours. Even today, I struggle with this. Having a good routine helps, and knowing the work is endless and that enough can be good enough some days.

🗄 Every little thing needs to be organised (not just your calendar!) - without systems in place, you will waste time and energy trying to make things work. If you're going to do something more than once, it's better to automate it.

🎤 You always need to be marketing yourself, putting yourself out there. This takes not only a large chunk of time but also can be emotionally draining for an introvert like me. But keeping yourself visible and 'selling yourself' is a part of the 'job'.

📅 There's much more forward planning than a regular 9-5 job. Clients are rarely long-term, so you need to be looking ahead constantly to make sure you can pay the bills.

💸 And lastly - the financial aspect is a pain. And knowing that the money you're earning will soon have a huge cut taken for tax is daunting.
Getting an accountant for me has been a life-saver – for a small fee, the stress (and time/energy) of trying to work it out is solved. Worth it!

Are you a freelancer? Do you agree or disagree - anything else you'd tell your former self before diving into the self-employment game?

2024 was full of ups and downs, but one thing I'm really proud of this year is how far I've come with my freelancing now...
23/12/2024

2024 was full of ups and downs, but one thing I'm really proud of this year is how far I've come with my freelancing now.

As anyone who lives the self-employed life knows, it can be a bit of a rollercoaster, but I feel like I've finally hit my stride in 2024.

I am working with incredible clients and I love being a part of growing their businesses.

It's far from perfect – I'm still juggling the work/life balance! – but I wouldn't change this path.

It's been a good few years in the making, but I'm glad I stuck with it and got through.

Freelancing has taught me that while the comfort zone is comfortable, I can achieve even more when I push myself. I hope to take that ambitious, confident Sarah into 2025 with me – who knows what I could achieve?!

Here's to a 2025 of growth for us all. Whether that's in business, personally or something else, we don't even know yet!

🥂🤞💜

💰 If you have a small budget...
Start with a power hour – an hour's 1:1 consultation with me where you can ask me any marketing questions you have.

For more hands-on support, a nurture package is a set number of hours over 3 months where we can do 1:1 calls and/or you can assign me tasks. This is designed to help you get started so you feel supported to continue on your own after we finish working together.

💰💰 For medium budgets... An Audit of your Social Media, Email Marketing, Website User Experience and/or Website SEO is a great option for you.

Solo entrepreneur Fiona came to me earlier this year after feeling this way. Her branding and copywriting business was growing, and she simply didn’t have the time to juggle it all any longer!

I stepped in, taking on the ad-hoc marketing tasks she had, adapting week to week to her needs.

From email automation and creation, website edits and copywriting, to social media graphics – I’m there for Fiona as and when she needs me.

Here’s what Fiona has to say about working with me...

"Back in March 2024, I reached out to Sarah for help with website updates and tackling the technical side of my marketing - everything from setting up funnels to email marketing.
All the things that simply weren't budging from my to-do list, that were holding me back. Fast forward to now, and I’m so glad I invested in Sarah's services.

Thanks to Sarah’s support, I’ve seen real growth in my marketing strategy, including building my email list and finally reaching the goal of incorporating passive income into my business model.
Her expertise in optimising these areas has been invaluable. Honestly, I wouldn’t be where I am with this strategy without her.

I’ve already recommended Sarah to others because the quality of her service is unmatched. She’s efficient, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about providing value. 'Ethical' isn’t just part of Sarah’s branding - it’s how she works, from her guidance to her ex*****on. If you’re looking for someone who can help you build your business with integrity, Sarah is the one to call!"

Steal my content ideas for December 👀 🎄 ⬇️

Somehow, already, it’s almost December! Time to crack open your calendar and plan your next social posts with these new ideas. 😊

Take a look back at last December – could you repurpose it for this year to save some time?

"If you care about the environment, then why aren’t you vegan?" And everything changed...

This month, I'm celebrating quite the milestone – 10 years vegan! 🥳🙌😁

I had some idea in September 2013 that things were going to change for me as I was off to University! Little did I know that my life would change in so many bigger ways than I thought possible. 👀

I grew up in a family of meat-eaters in the middle-of-nowhere Devon, surrounded by farms. Vegetarians were something people whispered about, and I'd never even met one until arriving at Uni.

I moved into halls and immediately met one! And then another and another!
I started experimenting with veggie meals while we all cooked together, and I soon made the switch to not eating meat quite easily!

A few weeks later, I met a vegan (who ended up being a lifelong friend). This was a concept I was even more unfamiliar with, and while I'd found the switch to no meat simple enough, the ethics behind meat were one and the same as all animal products.
And if I really cared about the environment, like I said...

The ni**le in my mind began – if I cared about animals, the planet, and my health, I should really go vegan! 🤔

I tried a few times during my first year at Uni. But the siren call of 2-for-1 dominos was hard for a teenager to resist! 😅

Finally, as I entered my second year, older and wiser, I decided that November - World Vegan Month - was an appropriate time to really try once and for all – and stick to it! 💪

And so here I am ten years later!

Of course, there has been an occasional slip-up - a Starbucks worker mishearing me, not reading a label quite as thoroughly as I should - the awful mistakes that make your heart sink.

But I am proud to say I have never willingly or knowingly eaten any part of an animal since. 💜

Being vegan is one of my core values. And this carries through into how I do business.

Whether your business is in the 'green' niche or just a part of your life as a business owner, working with people who share your values is important.

I love working with other ethical and sustainable businesses to help change the world one step at a time. 💜 🌍
