Early Morning Rescue: Littlehampton RNLI Launches Lifeboats to Assist Fishing Vessel
Volunteers tow stricken boat to safety after electrical failure off Angmering-on-Sea
Littlehampton RNLI volunteers launched both their lifeboats early on Sunday morning (June 15) to assist a fishing vessel in difficulty around five miles south of Angmering-on-Sea.
The vessel, carrying three people, was reported to be suffering from electrical issues, with one crew member experiencing mild seasickness. The call for help came just after sunrise, prompting a coordinated response from the RNLI team.
The B-Class lifeboat Renee Sherman was launched to take the fishing boat under tow, while the D-Class lifeboat Spirit of Fidelity was also deployed as backup. The second lifeboatโs role was to ensure there was enough water for the vessel to safely enter Littlehampton Harbour and to provide additional support if a crew evacuation was needed.
Upon arrival, RNLI volunteers assessed the unwell crew member and determined that no medical treatment was required. With the vessel unable to proceed under its own power, the Renee Sherman successfully towed it into the harbour, where it was safely moored at Town Quay on the east bank of the River Arun.
