Available today from our bandcamp, the next release in the serpent line, the debut poetry Zine from Jon Griffin. In Jon’s words:

I first started writing poetry as a child, in secret books that nobody ever saw. It made me feel so good to do it that somehow it felt as though I should keep it to myself but then I wasn’t moving through a world where poetry seemed to have much of a place. The brutal inner-city ‘realism’ of my South-East London childhood didn’t want my poet’s soul; it felt like it would eat you up if it knew who you really were so you had to produce a dead shell to walk in: an avatar. You had to pretend that you were tough, impervious, scornful. I was never very good at that. We didn’t study poetry at school (we didn’t study anything at school) but we were introduced to poets like Linton Kwesi-Johnson, John Agard and Benjamin Zephania which in itself was a very great thing though I didn’t realise it at the time, only later. As time went on I was kidnapped by my discovery of music and my main focus was on songwriting but I never stopped writing poems in my secret books. To be more accurate I should say that poems never stopped appearing to me because I very rarely sit down to write one, they enter my head like a visitation. In fact sometimes if one arrives when I’m driving I have to pull over to write it down. They arrive like that sometimes almost fully formed, other times they are more enigmatic and I need to spend months interpreting them. In any case, I can’t stop them appearing; I have no control over it.

This is the first collection of poems that I have produced to share with other people and I am very proud to release them into the world. Of course I hope very much that people will like and appreciate them but even if they don’t like or appreciate them I shan’t stop writing them in the secret books. I can’t you see.

Alongside the Zine Jon has recorded a spoken word piece for each poem in the book, a beautiful ambient accompaniment to add an extra dimension to the work.

Eyeless records are honoured to announce “Beach” by .mn.

The new album by London based artist known as Winnipeg, MN sees him entering a deeper realm of tone and texture. With the recurring motif of waves and beach sounds Winnipeg, MN weaves 6 songs featuring melancholic deep range singing and some of the most beautiful guitar lines he has conjured. Self produced and mixed the artist also shows a mastery of sound design the ebb and flow of which is a truly immersive experience. Winnipeg, MN continues to express feelings of loss and longing and in the final part of the ep the 18 minute track “On Big Loop” he sits back and truly let’s the music do the talking. A landmark release for the artist and a landmark release for the label.

Available on cassette and streaming on the 24th of feb. There will be a listening party that same day at the black dove in brighton. The first single can be heard on all streaming services today!

A pleasure to work with Jamie again, and this is a very special album.

A shard of light after a dark day, I’m going to be supporting in brighton on the 21st of November. Paul from .cred put me on to Michael due to our mutual love of Townes, I later learned that Michael played and recorded with Townes in the 90s, which is quite a thing. His latest album, The Struggle, is absolutely gorgeous and one of my albums of the year. I have cheap tickets for whoever messages me, this’ll be a treat and I’ll do some low covers x
