80 years ago today, the mission to invade and liberate Northern France from N**i forces was underway. D-Day had arrived. Months of planning — logistics, espionage and groundbreaking technology — all focused on a crucial few hours on June 6th. It’s an extraordinary story of men and women from all around the world working together, as riveting as it is important, and I was glad to have contributed to a couple of episodes in this series.

I’m very excited for the Beyond The Book Festival tomorrow where I will be interviewing the Queen of the Quip, the one and only, headline act Kathy Lette. I came of age with Kathy’s frank and funny books as my guide, so can’t wait to chat about writing, revenge and age rage! There’s a stellar line-up throughout the day. And it’s all set in a venue that features in one of my own novels - the lovely Friends Meeting House in Brighton.

Last night we hosted Graham Bartlett (whose third novel City on Fire comes out today) David Fennell (whose novel The Silent Man came out in paperback last month) and Jo Furniss (whose crime novel Dead Mile comes out in July) to discuss the enduring popularity of crime fiction. A packed-out room at Kemptown Bookroom was testament to readers’ love of crime fiction

Really fun quiz night with the brilliant group who do brilliant work to bring extra literacy sessions to schools. Lots of local (Brighton) authors and businesses donated raffle prizes. I was lucky to win a voucher for which is a firm favourite. We raised a gazillion pounds to enable more young people to find their voice. And I had a good laugh with teammates . But, to compound a slight hangover, I’m also riddled with regret for question failures… for future reference, flying fish can glide up to 400m and there are more sharks than seals. Now you know. Thanks for being host with the most (infuriating questions).

Forgive a PDA of mum pride but I’m still not over .furniss playing the lead in the school production of Jane Eyre so brilliantly. It’s an intense part, on stage for the entire show, along with the whole cast, a Cellist who wrote her own music, and a real fire at Thornfield Hall 🔥 It was lovely to have a visit from the actor Madeleine Worrall who played Jane in the National Theatre production and helped devise the original play. Kudos to the drama dept for the production and the theatre for a dramatic set 🎭
