Where Next!?

Sadly Bottega Rehearsal Rooms had to pack down at the end of last year, due to developers giving notice to everyone in the building prior to their plan to demolish the building.

Bottega equipment has gone into storage as has Joy Diversions equipment. Therefore we are looking for a new studio space to set up in.

Bottega Rooms is under the umbrella of AudioActive and has another hub in Worthing and has rehearsal rooms there which opened in August last year called Montague Rooms! So that is is an alternative option for any of you if that would suit.

Joy Diversion is hoping to find a new space in Brighton. So if there are any updates you’ll be the first to know. Also, if you know of any suitable spaces to set up rehearsal/recording studio too do let us know. We want to keep our community of bands/musicians together and keep the vibe going with you 🤩

‼️PROTECT YOUR GRASSROOTS MUSIC VENUES‼️
The Hope & Ruin, Rossi Bar and The Folklore Rooms need your help (again!) A planning application has been updated and submitted again to add 3 residential flats at 125 Queens Road opposite The Hope & Ruin, Rossi Bar and along from The Folklore Rooms.

Three Grassroots Music Venues will be at risk from Noise Complaints if these flats go ahead.

We need your help in writing objections to let the developer know we are important cultural assets in Brighton & Hove and must be protected.

The key issues to raise are these:

- The importance of these venues to you personally and to culture in Brighton and Hove.

- The risk that noise complaints from the new flats could lead to action being taken against the music venues.

- Express concern that no noise survey has been submitted with the planning application.

The proposal is contrary to the national 'agent of change' planning principle, which requires that existing music venues are harmed by proposed residential development taking place nearby.

It is also contrary to Policy DM40 of the City Plan Part Two.

We’ve watched too many planning applications like these create issues and in some cases close down venues so we need your help (again) to help us protect these hugely important and much loved cultural hubs.

The Prince Albert - Iconic venue under real threat

URGENT – DEADLINE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT

Save THE PRINCE ALBERT from developers.

A planning application has been lodged with the council to build ‘9 retail units and 2 AirB&Bs right next door to Brighton’s iconic music venue where the old garage was.

One of the AirB&B bedrooms will back onto the wall where the venue’s stage is. It is the same situation as has happened to Manchester’s Night & Day venue, which is currently fighting a noise abatement notice in the courts. We can’t keep letting this happen to our grassroots venues. It is clearly bad planning to build a bedroom right next to a venue’s drumkit.

If planning permission is granted, then due to new government planning laws, there is nothing stopping the builder converting the whole space into permanent homes. The council would be powerless to stop them. When you consider that the Prince Albert is literally a 30 second walk away from the train station, it seems highly likely to me, that no developer would be able to resist the mega money they could make from having the building all residential and selling them to London commuters.

I am asking you all to follow the link below (or the QR code in the picture) and leave an objection comment. You don’t have to write an essay, keeping it brief is fine. Numbers are the key here. Each one of you that does, it counts as an objection. We need to show the Councillors how we’ll loved this venue is and allow them to take note of people’s feelings when making their decisions (we are 6 months away from the council elections).

The deadline is midnight tonight 7/12/22.
