When you gather a group of like-minded people in a room, itā€™s like something magical happensā€¦āœØ

Itā€™s like weā€™ve all given ourselves permission to drop those shoulders, drop the guard, and just be us for a moment.

Thereā€™s nothing more inspiring than getting together with like-minded photographers. Would you agree?

And when the core of the conversation is storytelling in our business - itā€™s just the icing on the cake!

Twice a month, members of The Conversion Story meet up in the Zoom room with their questions, curiosities and wonderings - and we get the answers there and then on the table.

Itā€™s a simple support system.
Because I donā€™t believe in selling ā€˜the thingā€™ and leaving you to it.
We all know how that endsšŸ™„

And it was great!
We got the answers AND letā€™s not forget the one thing we humans look forā€¦.

My grandson.
Heā€™ll be 10 next month.

So I got thinking. And made notes.
About him.

āœļø What he loves doing

āœļø What he doesnā€™t love doing

āœļø I spoke to the parents

āœļø I spoke to his brother

āœļø I asked some carefully thought out questions when I picked him up from school
[what would you like for your birthday?]ā˜ŗļø

And Iā€™ve now got him the perfect birthday present.
He. Is. Going. To love it!

āš½ļø A kids mystery football shirt! āš½ļø

He loves football, and is very good at it too - and these mystery shirts are THE THING to have right now
[so my research told me]

āœ”ļø Job done.

Think of my grandson like my ideal client.

I need to be sure that what I offer is EXACTLY what he needs/wants.

And unless I put the work in to dig deep and unpack it all, Iā€™ll never know what that is, and my street-cred will go down the pan šŸ™„

What I didnā€™t know, was that all I was doing was contributing to the online noise - just like every other photographer.

What I ACTUALLY needed was to find a way to stand head and shoulders above the rest and to STOP looking and sounding the same as them.

šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø But how?

It all comes back to knowing who your ideal client is.

If Iā€™m honest, back then I didnā€™t really have one - all you had to do was glance my way and I said yes.

šŸ˜¬ And then I was left wondering why every job didnā€™t fill me with joy.

Well - now I know.

IF youā€™ve nailed your ideal client, then not only have you got CLARITY, but youā€™ve got CONNECTION.

And when youā€™ve got connection - your message stops being generic and becomes personal.

Thatā€™s when your audience feels like youā€™re speaking directly to them.

And thatā€™s when you start to speak their language, resonating on a deeper level, and you become the trusted go-to.

And not only does your marketing becomes SO MUCH easier - but you only attract the clients who are a right fit for you.

And itā€™s just amazing, honestly!

Storytelling starts with your client, they said.

I wasnā€™t convinced.
Probably because I was too busy shouting into the void, convinced that my images would do the selling for me.

Anyway, hello supply teaching.
Another day. Another dollar.

šŸš™ And then I had a revelation that morning on my way into school.

I was listening to a podcast, and by the time I had arrived and parked up in the car park, I realised where I was going wrong.

All this time, I had been talking to everyone.
šŸ“£ Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn - everyone!

But if I knewĀ EXACTLYĀ who I was talking to in my marketing, my message would connect in a way thatā€™s personal and powerful.

And itā€™s the difference between MESSY marketing and MAGNETIC marketing.

If I could make sure my words hit the RIGHT NOTE with the RIGHT PEOPLE - then me, my story, my brand and my product would have a greater chance of shining through all the noise.

That was it.

šŸ•µšŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Working out who my ideal client was suddenly moved to the top of the agenda!

But in the meantime, I needed to get in the classroom pretty pronto, and just hope that some coherent planning was sitting on the table for me šŸ˜¬

When you know exactly who youā€™re talking to, everything changes.

Start with ONE person.
Just the one.

šŸ‘‰šŸ» Picture them in detail - what do they care about?

šŸ‘‰šŸ» What lights them up, and what keeps them awake at night?

šŸ‘‰šŸ» Whatā€™s that one big dream theyā€™re working towards?

When you know this stuff, youā€™re not just able to make that connection - youā€™re building a bridge.

And itā€™s easier than you think.


šŸ’Æ Get personal - use details that make them feel like youā€™re in their head

šŸ’Æ Skip the jargon - no buzzwords, no generic pitches. Keep it real and talk like youā€™re having coffee together

šŸ’Æ Be real about pain points - whatā€™s one specific struggle they face that your expertise can help with?

When you connect with this person authentically, everyone who relates to them feels it too.

Your dream clients see themselves in your story.
