We began collaborating with Bradford District Museums & Galleries in 2023, initially focusing on a signage and outdoor branding survey. Following comprehensive brand research and strategic consideration, we expanded our project scope to include a full brand overhaul and the development of a new website. This initiative aimed to leverage the upcoming Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture and strengthen the collective’s cohesive image. As well as ensuring the organisation had a brand that was fully accessible, flexible and cohesive across all four sites.

The project required a professional visual identity and sub-venue brands that could be seamlessly adaptable across digital, social media, web, and print formats, including the website. Our commissioned brand identity project also included a website redesign and rebuild. We collaborated with internal staff and external freelancers to ensure asset management, campaign and exhibition identities were inline with their new identity and act as brand guardians for the new identity

The website needed a complete restructure and rebuild to ensure it was fit for purpose and easy to navigate for both external users and staff. We built the new website on WordPress and tailored the backend system to support the various activities of the museums. Additionally, we ensured the website was accessible, fast, and secure, adhering to the highest standards of web accessibility to cater to all users. We also optimised the site for search engines (SEO), enhancing its visibility and reach to a broader audience.

We're proud to share our work for the Natural History Museum, London, leading the way in nature education and climate action. The National Education Nature Park and Climate Action Awards program is all about connecting children and young people with the wonders of nature. 🌱 From nurturing pollinator-friendly habitats to imparting life-long skills, it's about fostering resilience in our ecosystem. 🐝 A brand system was developed that made use of a textured paper cut style with varying degrees of detail corresponding to different age groups. All of these elements were created in a way that the system could be expanded when needed, with illustrations being easily produced in common creative software.

A thorough series of guidelines was created to govern the use of colours and text to ensure consistency across designs whether created by internal teams, external agencies, or teachers and school staff. As part of this process, key assets such as logo lockups were produced, with a range of end-uses guiding the formats produced.

The Well is an online meeting place for the growing global vocal improvisation community. It supports and inspires collaboration and vocal practice between its members and explores their musical relationship with the natural world.

The Well’s founders approached Out of Place with the request of creating a unique and impactful brand and website that reflected the diversity and vibrancy of their members and community.

The resulting brand identity featured a modern logo, a set of supporting visuals, and a striking colour palette. The community’s values of diversity, collaboration, the natural world, and being a source of inspiration and support for one another’s vocal practices were all reflected in the brand’s illustrated shapes and logo.

The websites primary function is to engage the vocal improvisation community and encourage collaboration. A custom Wordpress system was designed and built which centred around a multi-lingual, easy-to-use members portal in which members could add and manage events, profiles and subscriptions, whilst finding other members of the community and events around the world through event listings and populated maps.

Out of Place Studio was born out of a body of collaborative work between designer Matt Lamont (formerly FoxDuo) and publisher Haigh Simpson (formerly Festival Publications). Having worked together on projects for several years we decided to merge our businesses and build a studio based on our collective strengths and shared passions.

We work with businesses and organisations looking to deliver meaningful and memorable projects that convey a true sense of place.

We build attractive and functional websites, we create purposeful and adaptable branding, and we deliver high quality practical print products.
