Sayyiduna Ali said that Rasūlallāh ﷺ was cautious of [certain] people and on guard with them - without denying any of them of his good character. This is a lost sunnah in our time. What does this mean?

If someone is toxic and bad for your life, your well-being, your heart, your peace of mind, your family life, your communal life, or your religion - you don't have to keep opening up doors for them to continue to harm you and upset you. If you've been bit from a hole once - you don't have to return. If you know facing a snake will result in you getting killed - then logic says you should run a million miles to save yourself. Don't be so 'spiritual' and 'pious' to think that the snake wants to share a cup of coffee with you, sing kumbaye around a fire, and be best friends. Being courteous, posessing husn zann, and having good character doesn't equal being passive, naive to the patterns of life, docile, and completely out of touch with reality.

People believe that adab has no benefit. Why kiss the Qur'an if you don't recite it? Why place it high and honour it if you don't follow it? What benefit will placing it upon your eyes and respecting it have if you sin?

Well, why don't you ask Imam Bishr al-Hafi why he picked up a piece of paper with the blessed Name of Allāh upon it, perfumed it, and placed it high? That action was so accepted that he heard a voice say, 'You perfumed My Name in this world so I shall perfume your name in both worlds!' Within a night, he went from sinner to Saint due to what action? Adab.
